As I took my first steps down this narrow, dimly lit hallway that led to my second chance, my new lease on life, I felt a sudden rush of feelings I couldn't seem to identify. Lost in the cacophony of my thoughts, I didn't notice that I had stopped in front of the all too familiar red door with the rusting doorknob and the little door knocker in the shape of a Greek goddess. My hands shakily went ahead to grab it, and just as I felt it's cold and metallic exterior, I paused. What's happening? I thought. I had been looking forward to this, to him for weeks now. So why do I suddenly feel like I'm doing something wrong? Like I'm betraying... No! I'm not! Unfortunately, my hand wasn't willing to listen to my very loud internal assurances, and I slowly put down the knocker and started backing away from the door like I was confronting one of those creatures that mother's use to scare their kids into behaving. You know, the ones that go bump in the night. My beautiful sunflower dress brushed against the freshly coated wall beside me as I turned around and ran back down the long hallway. Looking back, that ranks high on the list of the top 10 stupidest things I've ever done.
