The 1965 season starts with a bang. 1456 is officially named Samuel today and the first trains of the season commence. Someone at the platform during the naming ceremony asked a couple questions to the 14xx.
1. How did you escape scrap?
2. Why Samuel as a name?
The 14xx replied with the following story. In 1962 he was withdrawn from service on the line he worked and sent to Barry island. He stayed there for 2 years and began to collect rust. Engines around him began disappearing around him. He questioned what was happening. One cold Octobers evening last year, he was awoken to the sound of chuffing and soon saw a pannier backing down on him. A smart man jumped down from the cab and said. "So 1456, I'd like you to know that you have just been saved getting killed by us. The LVR Society". He was over joyed! He arrived at his new home 2 days later. As for the second question, he said he wanted to. no reason behind it.
Brighton Works came out today for break van rides again. He has just over 3 years left on his boiler ticket so we must get the most out of him. He is very willing to work. Overall the days events have been fun.
