"Karl, please listen to me, okay? No interrupting either, I'll make this as quick as I can. Just... bear with me."
Karl looks at me and nods, taking a small breath to calm down. I take a breath myself, preparing to rant for quite a while on what the hell is happening to us.
. . .
"That's all I know. Right now at least," I explain; looking over his expression for any information I can get, but his face seemed to be frozen.
"You... aren't from my dimension? And— I live in a video game. Fuckin shit—" Karl holds onto the couch for support as he takes in a few more breaths. I quickly walk over, patting his back in an attempt to supply comfort.
"I know this is a lot to take in but—" I cut myself off when I suddenly start to hear... cackling?
Karl looks over at me, laughing his ass off as if I'd just told the worlds best joke. "You're kidding me right? Amazing! We're some type of miracle! ...How intriguing."
Seeing how his reaction was nearly the complete opposite of mine, I drop my jaw open, having expected something more mean or vulgar to come out of his mouth. "Was it too much information at once? Did you lose your mind?"
"Well, I'll be honest, if I got away from my world through some kind of magic multiverse bullshit, staying would be a blessing," Karl smiled, standing back up proudly.
"Really?! You wanna stay here?" I know just how pitiful it looked for me to be so desperate to have him live in this reality, but I truly can't imagine a better thing.
He escapes Miranda and his siblings, all while I get to keep him and stay home. It's a win-win scenario.
"Yeah, I mean... No one in that damned village meant anything to me in the first place. They were my tormentors, my challenges. I got away, and I don't plan on going back anytime soon. Besides, all I really needed— was you, y/n."
With his words I quickly wrap my entire body around Karl, arms and legs holding onto him like a monkey.
His familiar laugh floods my ears and provides me with comfort as I squeeze tighter, feeling his own arms hug back.
"Wait..." I let go of the man after feeling his body's temperature, standing back on my feet to put my head against his chest. "Karl... I think... you have a heartbeat?"
He looks down at me with a raised brow. "Sorry buttercup, but I've been made of metal since I was a child. There's no way in hell that's possible," Karl shakes his head, but I take his hand and place it over his chest so he can feel how instead of a cold ticking, it was a rhythmic thump with warmth.
"Feel that? It's what having a heart's like," I inform, touching my own chest as if to prove myself right.
"That's— did this happen to you?" Karl looks at me and I can sense how worried he'd gotten.
"No, but it's okay. You don't need powers where we are. You're safe," I smile, knowing that I was lying through my teeth. Even though there weren't any magical gods, there were definitely some bad and dangerous people.
Karl just grunts, taking another look around my parents house. "This your place? Do you have food?"
I shake my head and rest my hand on the small of Karl's back, guiding him towards the bathroom. "Let's start with a shower first."
"Huh? Oh please, I haven't showered since I became immortal. Don't you think it's a little useless at this point?" The man verbalizes his complaints, but I don't stop pushing Karl towards the bathroom. If anything, that confession makes me push him harder.
"Well let's start your first mortal day off in years with a shower; shall we?"
The two of us get into the bathroom and I open the shower curtain, revealing a clean bathtub. I go into the closet and take out a towel along with a washcloth.
I turn to the man, knowing I was about to sound idiotic. "You do know how to shower... right?"
Karl scoffs, taking the towels from my hands. "Of course I know how to shower!" He walks up to the tap and just stares, hand hovering over it.
I smirk, crossing my arms from behind him. "Sure you don't need help with anything?"
He looks back at me with furrowed brows, before letting out a sigh, staring back at the tub. "...Whatever."
I laugh a little and bend over, turning the handles onto a warm setting before starting the shower head, watching as beads of water start falling. "This is hot water, this is the cold. If you need me, just call."
"I still fail to see how this is necessary," Karl complained, taking off his trench coat before slipping off his shirt.
"I don't wanna be rude, but Karl you smell worse than Moreau," I admit, closing the bathroom door behind me as I do.
"You liar!"
A small chuckle leaves my lips at his yelling, and I walk off towards my parents room, going into my dads closet so I can steal a sweatshirt with some sweatpants.
I assume my dad is around the same size as Karl, but take baggier stuff just in case, walking back towards the bathroom.
I could hear him in the shower, crashing and banging echoing into the halls. Karl must be trying to get the shampoo and body wash or something like that. I knock on the wood, waiting for him to respond.
"Karl? I'm gonna open the door and set some clothes in, okay?!" I don't think he hears me because there's no response, so I crack open the door and slip in the clothing, quickly shutting it behind me with a red face.
I walk over to my living room slowly, sitting down as I wait for my friend to be done in the bathroom so I can show him around the house.
It should be a lot less confusing than the factory, but I don't know how he'll feel about being confined to such a small space.
It only takes about twenty minutes for the man to step out of the bathroom, and my breath catches in my throat at the sight of him.
No hat.
No glasses.
No dirty clothes or greasy skin.
He was practically shining, his body completely different in my eyes now that he smelled amazing and looked comfortable.
Karl glances at me, his wet hair draped around his face and his scruff already dried up. There was no sweatshirt on his mechanic body and instead had it swung over his shoulder. I raked him and his tan lines over a few too many times.
Oh dear...
