PROLOGUEEclipse, a NightWing dragonet, was only 2 years old when her new baby sister hatched. Before this moment, she couldn't wait to be an older sister.
"I'm going to be a great big sister!” she'd excitedly tell herself every morning and night. Eclipse’s parents even let her name her sister. When she finally hatched out of her gorgeous red-black egg in the cave, and she got to hold her baby sister, she was beautiful.
Her sister was different looking. She looked like a HiveWing-NightWing hybrid, but she knew that couldn’t be, because both of her parents were full NightWing, and so was Eclipse. She knew she would want answers soon, but she didn’t care about that right now. All she was focused on (and cared about at the moment) was being an older sister, and thinking of all the memories they were going to make. Her baby sister’s body was mainly black with straight red stripes going along her neck, back, and tail. She had four wings like a HiveWing and her two front legs had bright red on them, while her back legs had bright yellow. Eclipse didn’t really care at the moment what was wrong with her, all she knew was that she was beautiful. She knew what her name was going to be just by looking at her little sister.
Abispa, she thought. She knew it was perfect.
“Mom, I want to name her Abispa!” Eclipse exclaimed.
"It's wonderful, dear." Her mother, Shatter, agreed as she blinked her beautiful blue-purple eyes and slightly spread her black wings with little specks of white spots that looked like someone had flicked white paint on her wings with a paintbrush. As her father, Mindbender took Abispa, Eclipse wondered what her life would be like now that she's an older sister.
“It seems that Abispa has a genetic mutation, but it’s alright. She’s perfect.” Mindbender stated. Everyone loved Abispa just by looking at her.
“Mom, can I tell Void please?” She asked in a cute tone so her mother would agree to it. Void was Eclipse’s best friend since hatching and even had their own secret meeting spot.
“Sure, you can let her know.” Her mother said calmly as she sauntered out of the cave where Abispa was born. So that's what Eclipse did. She told Void, and for 5 straight years, things were great. Eclipse’s family was happy, and she was also doing great with her mind-reading. Then on Abispa’s 6th hatching day, everything changed.CHAPTER ONE
Just one more day until Abispa’s 6th hatching day, and I will make it perfect, Eclipse thought happily. She spent hours making something for her baby sister, several tries and several models until it was perfect.
The next morning she made her sister's favorite breakfast, and layed out everything. Abispa woke up, came down, and hugged Eclipse thanking her for breakfast. When her parents woke up, they had some as well.
After breakfast, it was time to open gifts. Abispa opened Eclipse's first, and when she saw the gorgeous little model of Abispa and her sister she freaked out and was jumping with joy.
"THANK YOU SISSY!" She squealed in excitement. Abispa opened her mother and father’s gifts to find beautiful pearl necklaces, bracelets, and a little golden crown.
Mother and father didn't tell me they were getting such good things for her. Now mine is lame, Eclipse thought sadly.
Everyday after that, her parents would give Abispa something expensive or rare and were negotiating Eclipse. She had to feed herself, and get her own things, while Abispa got anything and everything she wanted. Eclipse started to rebel against Shatter and Mindbender’s rules as they both grew more hatred towards her.
Eclipse started to feel like she was more wanted at Void’s cave. She started to spend more and more time at Void’s cave because her place was better now. She would stay a week at least, sometimes longer. When Abispa started school, everyone started picking on Eclipse. They'd bully her, take her prey that she had worked hard to hunt, and shove her aside. Her parents started to yell at her everyday at least once. Before she knew it, Eclipse wanted out.
CHAPTER TWOEclipse moved in with Void and stayed a month at her cave. Eclipse started to feel something for Void, something strong. She'd also lay awake at night and think about her.
What is this feeling? She thought constantly.
The next morning, Eclipse and Void were sitting there, looking at the ashy skies and down at the rest of the volcano that looked like it went through a ton of craziness through a medium sized hole in the cave.
“Do you ever wonder what's out in the continent beyond our border?” Eclipse asked Void, who was looking down and fidgeting.
Void looked up, shook her head, hesitated, then replied “I mean I do, but we aren't allowed to go out there. It’s forbidden to leave the border until we are 10. No matter what.” Void said in her controlling voice, which Eclipse liked a lot. She thought about telling Void about these feelings, but Eclipse knew something was off, and was scared to ruin it and lose her only friend.
“But what if there’s nothing here to stay for? Plus, we’re almost 10! We have 2 more years. That’s close enough, right?” Eclipse asked, tilting her head. When Eclipse asked that question, she noticed Void flinch.
“Not until we are ten. No matter what.” Void told herself. Eclipse knew what was going on in her friend’s life, and the pain she's in. She had an idea, in hopes Void will agree.
“What if we go together, run away, leave this place behind, and start our own life together?” and as soon as those last words left Eclipse’s mouth, she slammed it shut in regret.
Please don’t notice those last words, she thought to herself.
“Y-you want to be with me? Like just you and m-me?” Void stammered. Eclipse peaked into her mind to see what she thought.
SHE WANTS TO BE ALONE WITH ME! cheered Void’s mind.
Eclipse nodded in excitement.
“YES, YES I’LL GO WITH YOU!” she belted as she jumped to Eclipse.
“Great! we leave tomorrow night!” Eclipse cheered, smiling and hugging her NightWing friend.
