***Author Note: So very sorry for the delay in this! It has been a crazy week filled with not-so-good doctor's appointments (all for me), more work than usual, and some really exciting news that has taken up more of my time than I was expecting (details to come soon). Because of these developments, my writing schedule is going to be more hectic/sporadic than intended, but I will write and update as quick and often as I'm able. Now, on with the show!
The Next Morning
"Girl, I don't mean this in a bad way, but you look beat," Heather Martin said as she looked at Lia in the teacher's lounge. "Did you have another late night?"
Lia caught the smirk tugging on her friend's lips as they stirred the creamer into their coffees and fought to tamp down the blush crawling across her cheeks. When she had finally hung up from speaking with Spencer the night before, she had done so with a heavy heart, missing him far more than she thought possible for just having met him and for him to be her "client". Her brain had felt like mush the instant she realized he was the one calling her; a realization she wasn't certain was a good one to have...
"Earth to Angelia!" Heather said, snapping her fingers in front of her emerald eyes and breaking her introspection. "Okay, spill the tea, girlfriend, because clearly you've got some."
Heather dragged her over to the plush couch in the corner of the room since they both had a free period currently, and sat them down expectantly. Lia bit her lip, unsure what she should (or could) tell her friend. She took a sip of her deliciously hot coffee to collect her thoughts, thinking back to yesterday morning in Spencer's apartment when she had watched in amusement as he had poured in an ungodly amount of sugar to his coffee.
"Well, I started working with a new client," she began slowly, staring into the swirling depths of her mug.
"Normally you don't zone out or look this worn out because of a client so what gives?"
"I'm not using a traditional therapy method with him," Lia answered with a small shrug, still not meeting her friend's gaze.
"Not using a..." Heather trailed off as she studied her, her eyes widening as she realized what Lia meant. "Holy fucking shit!" she exclaimed, garnering the attention of the other teachers in the break room and causing Lia to slap her hand over her mouth.
"Would you keep your voice down?"
Heather pried her hand away, eyes still wide and jaw nearly to the floor. Leaning closer so she could whisper, she asked, "Are you using the technique Damien used with you after Chris died?"
Lia nodded in affirmation making Heather's eyes bug out even more.
"And you're blushing... This guy; is he hot?"
"He's definitely got sex-appeal, but in a slightly geeky way, if you know what I mean," Lia said with a small smile. "He is such a sweetheart too, Heather. We talked, just talked, on the phone last night since he's out of town, and it was seriously the best conversation I've had with the opposite sex in years."
"This isn't just about the therapy now, is it?" Heather asked, watching Lia carefully. "How many sessions have you had with him?"
"Technically? Only one, but it turned into an all-night session, and then he had to go out of town suddenly. And like I said, we talked last night on the phone."
"Lia...?" Heather questioned, eyeing her friend suspiciously. "Oh, shit, you like him, don't you?"
Lia sighed heavily, her breath ruffling the top of her coffee. Closing her eyes, she could see Spencer in her mind, could feel his fingers brushing back her hair and his lips on her neck, and wished like hell he was there with her now.
