The soft light from the sunset beamed through the shutters of William's office, he swore that he would clean it today, even if that meant staying awake until unreasonable times at night.
Henry knew William too well and, trying to save his friends sanity, offered to help. Although they had started at midday, there seemed to still be an ungodly amount of paperwork on the desk left to organise.
William had been sat at his desk shuffling through and discarding certain letters, notes and files at his own pace. Henry on the other hand couldn't do much apart from occasionally pick up discarded paper that William had long ago thrown to the side.
This left him to explore slightly.
Even though Henry had seen Williams office many times, he had realised that it wasn't often he managed to get a good look. Upon closer inspection, he noticed photos of William's children, books and cupboards that he had never fully registered before.
Sitting on top of one of these cupboards stood a record player and a few very much cared for plants.
Trying not to disturb the peace of the room, Henry lifted the cover with a quiet click.
Even after his precautions, William looked over at the man obviously snooping around.
"I forgot I had that to be fair, I haven't used it in years." William stated bluntly, interrupting the comfortable silence in the room.
"It might break if it gathers too much dust" Henry mumbled, unsure as to whether it still worked.
"I have a few records over there in my drawer, why don't you try it out?"
Henry looked over behind him where William was pointing at a well polished mahogany cabinet, topped with a small clock and scattered pens.
Reaching to unlock the cabinet, Henry pulled it open carefully as if it was an antique. Most of the furniture in this room probably cost more than his rent, so repaying William would be out of the question.
Looking at the shelf, a few records were neatly stacked next to other various items. Henry flicked through them and picked one out at random, not recognising any of the titles.
He slipped the cover off and took out the record, cautiously lowering it onto the turntable and blowing at some dust that was collected on the arm.
Satisfied, he lowered the needle onto the outside of the record and slowly turned it on.
"Why don't we take a quick break Henry?" William said as he extended his arm towards the other man.
Henry grinned, as a wave of excitement washed over him. He remembered the last time that they had danced together, which ultimately ended up with William on the floor after Henry attempted to dip him. Netherthless it was indescribably fun.
As Henry took Williams hand, William replied with a small bow and they pressed their torsos up against eachother, Henry took a deep breath to compose himself.
"Do you remember how to do this?" William asked as his and Henry's hands locked into position
"Think so, I'll figure it out" Henry sheepishly stated, all warning he got was a small giggle and they were off waltzing around Williams half clean office.
The music played softly as they span in familiar circles taking step after step and tripping occasionally as if they were tipsy. It didn't take long before Henry couldn't contain his laughter and started to cackle, pressing his forehead against Williams.
Playfully, William only sped up the spinning and steps until they we're prancing around the room rather than the civilised Dance they had set out with.
Nothing seemed to matter to William in that moment. Not the messy room, not the paperwork he had left incomplete, not even his own rational thoughts. all that he knew was that Henry had rested his head on Williams as they slowed down and gently swayed.
The music came to a grand halt as the needle slowed down and fell still on the record. Henry could've sworn that there was more music to come, so he sauntered towards the record player, still dizzy from his dance with William.
"Hm, looks like the plug was pulled" Henry stated, as he noticed the plug strewn from the socket.
"We probably caught it when we were spinning" William replied with a smile "Well maybe it's a sign to get back to cleaning" William stated, only followed by an annoyed groan from Henry.
William slowly made his way back to the boxes he had been organising and had a quick glance at Henry as he stared off into the distance, dazed.
"Henry, come on. This office won't clean itself!" William playfully nudged.
"Yeah. Yeah sorry I'll get on it" he smiled, slowly taking his weight off of the table and assigning himself to a box.
Getting over his excitement, he took a mental note to Find a way to dance with William again sometime. As pointless as it was, it proved itself a blissful escape from reality.
