under the dock

The feeling of the water enclosed around my body felt very relieving under the hot daytime. Though the water wasn't very 'clean' one could say, it was mossy and brown; you couldn't even see the bottom in the shallow parts.

I was up to my neck in the water. In the distance I could hear my sister and brother encouraging my cousins to go further into the water, but they were being reluctant. I was too busy in my thoughts to care, too busy feeling my feet sink deeper into the squishy floors of the lake.

I kept thinking about the dock, and how badly I wanted to dive into the water; but I too was reluctant. It went out into the deeper area's, I couldn't swim very well and that was one reason jumping off could end very well. Swimming towards the sand, I get on, slip on my flip flops, and make a beeline to the dock.

My cousins and siblings all follow me, they also announced that they were heading this way too.

The dock was sorta shaped like a 'T' one long path and an open space where benches sat. They were chains going around the perimeter in case someone were to fall in, we were the only ones here. me and my oldest cousin 'Molly' walk over to one end and look down, the water was a deep green and had twigs and chunks of moss floating around, the bottom impossible to see.

"I wanna jump in..." I mumbled loud enough for Molly to hear.

"Do you know how deep it is?" Molly questioned.

" no, but I'm very much tempted..." I trailed off still staring deep into the water.

Slowly I step over the chain and hold onto the wooden pillar, I look up to Molly who's giving me the 'you're seriously gonna do this' look. Looking into the water again; "It couldn't be that deep"

Straightening my back, mentally preparing myself to jump, Thinking deep and hard if this is a good idea. I'm not a good swimmer at all, I barely know how to doggy paddle.

Looking out into the distance I see my mother and aunt, ankle deep in the water, they are looking in our direction, likely wondering what I was doing. Looking down again;"fuck it..." I mumbled, took a deep breath and jumped.

I sinked until my lower back hit the nasty floor, realizing what happened I scrambled back to the surface. Inhaling deeply as I reached the top. I look up to see my cousin looking at me with bewilderment.

" Oh my god, you actually jumped!!!" she shouted, as i clung to the pillar, my arms and legs wrapped around it like a koala. "How deep is it?' she asked above me.

"I'm not sure.." and with that, I unwrapped my legs and lowered my self just a little, then lowering myself to my chin, craning my neck upwards i lowered myself a little more I cant feel anything underneath my feet, "I still haven't touched the bottom" molly said something that went unheard as i took in another breath and went under using the pillar to help lower myself, after almost 3 seconds of going down i barely felt the squishy floor touch my toes i went back up. I could of swore on the way up i saw something large and white in the water in with me, not thinking much of it, focusing my hands on the pillar.

As I came up I saw my other cousin and my brother and sister, standing beside Molly looking down. Clinging to the pillar again.

"Yeah, it's way too far down, " I exclaimed,

Everyone at once was asking questions, not understanding them, Molly announced loud enough

"Bet you can't swim under to the other side" with a smirk.

Smirking back, I reached out to grab a metal pole, pulling myself towards it. I grab onto the next, then the next. It was a pattern of wooden pillars and thin metal poles, above me I could hear them making comments and joking, while in my perspective I have to avoid grabbing onto spiderwebs and spider egg sacs.
