I Choose You

Chapter 2

A/N: Full disclaimer, I have no idea what i am doing besties but i am trying!

"But as far as the pair was concerned this is where they were going to be for awhile."

"Stefanie was my best friend from boot camp, we were both from Seattle and just sorta stuck together. Her and I would do everything together, we spent holidays when we could and we usually asked to be on leave the same time. I only have a brother and it was nice to finally have a sister, I know it's not biological but still, she was amazing. She even helped me come out and man I was mess." Maya wiped away a tear. Carina just sat and listen attentively.

"I lost her a year ago today...w-well technically yesterday."

"So that's why you were sitting in the bar alone?" Carina asked softly.

"Yeah..I just wanted to be alone but then you came up and in that moment I just knew I didn't want to be alone. Your presence was so warm and welcoming I felt safe talking to you. But if I am being honest, I was scared I would say too much and you would just leave. I know we barely met bu-" Maya was cut off by Carina with a gentle kiss.

"Even if you would have said that seat was taken I still would have found a way to talk to you bambina." Carina said with a smile. "Continue though, I want you to share whats been building up in your mind."

Maya smiled softly as she could still feel the Italians soft lips still lingering on hers. "Well.." Maya sighed before continuing.

"We were overseas, Baghdad Iraq and I was running point. Stefanie asked me 'right or left' and I said right I-I lead them right into a trap. I didn't know what was on the other side, they're dead because of me, Stefanie is dead because of me. Why couldn't have I been the one to be at the front of the group, why couldn't have I been the one to check the area out before giving an order. WHY WAS I SO FUCKING STUPID I KILLED MY BEST FRIEND." At this point Maya was sobbing uncontrollably and she was spiraling. Although Carina had only met the blonde just hours before she immediately went to comfort Maya.

"Shhhh hey it's okay, you wouldn't have known. You were being a leader with a very tough decision right in front of you. You couldn't have guessed this would be the outcome." And that's all she could say before laying down with Maya in her arms, neither slept they just laid there in Carinas bed. Maya was quietly crying but it was calming down more and more as the Italian whispered sweet Italian nothings into her ear. For the first time in a long time she felt safe and vulnerable around someone. To the pair it felt as if they had known each other for years, and for Maya it was the first time since she lost Stefanie that she was able to allow someone else to comfort her.

From all of the crying Maya eventually fell back to sleep now normally she would be starting her day but today she just let herself sleep. Carina got out of bed and started to do to some light cleaning around the house. About two hours passed and Maya was finally fully awake and ready to start her day. She walked into the kitchen to see Carina making breakfast.
"Mmm smells so good in here". She said as she went to sit down at the table. "Ah hey good morning bambina, I wasn't sure when you'd wake but I thought I would get a head start on breakfast." "Thank you Carina..for everything" Maya said as she looked at the Italian who was very focused on cooking.
"Oh of course it's not a big deal, they're just French toast."
"No I-I mean for listening to me and letting me stay here and for letting me sleep in and not making me leave first thing in the morning. It felt nice that someone wanted my company even after all I did was cry." Maya said shyly and she looked down at her hands and played with a bracelet.
"Maya I mean this when I say that I really enjoyed your company and I would love to spend more time with you, even if it's you letting steam go-" Carina was cut off by Maya "uh do you mean blowing off steam?" She chuckled. "Ah si! Even if it's you blowing off steam, I will be here. And as I said many times, even though we've just met I find you amazing and I really want to know even more about you" Carina said while placing a plate in front of the blond who just sat there looking at the Italian in aw.
"Well I can't wait to know more about you as well Carina"
The pair sat together and ate their food, exchanging some words but really Carinas French toast was so good Maya couldn't focus on anything else. As they finished eating Maya insisted on helping out by washing the dishes but Carina didn't let her, so of course Maya had to think of something to repay the brunette. After what seemed like forever Carina finished washing the dishes and Maya instantly knew what to do to repay Carina. Carina made her way to the couch to join Maya who looked to have been very invested to the show on TV.
"So do you have any plans for today?" Carina asked the very distracted or so she thought Maya Bishop.
As soon as Maya heard the words leave Carinas lips Maya swiftly moved closer to Carina and she placed a very passionate kiss to the brunettes lips.
The pair moved their lips together in sync not wanting to break but eventually they had to just for a quick second to get some air and continued their kiss. As the kiss became deeper Maya gently pushed Carina back with her body so that they both were now laying on the couch. Maya pulled away and looked at Carina with hunger in her eyes. "My planes for today do include you...unless you have plans yourself that I can go ahead and get going." Just as Maya finished her sentence she was getting up to get off of Carina, Carina pulled the blond back down so that their lips met again. And again then pulled away briefly "It seems like my plans are the same as yours."
