So let's say that there is a man who is highly intelligent but also socially awkward and he is walking through a park. Along comes a woman whom is also highly intelligent and socially awkward, they both sit down at the same bench and while sitting there they both come to notice a butterfly of the most intricate colors and patterns. They then strike up a conversation together over this butterfly. They go on some dates, get married and then have two kids. These two kids are also highly intelligent and they go on to become doctors. Many years later the two once children cure cancer, save lives and improve this gorgeous but yet horrid world. Now let's go back to the part were the man and the women are sitting at the bench before they begin to talk about the butterfly, I walk up and smash it. now they will not strike up a conversation (being as socially awkward as they are) have no kids, cure no diseases and not have helped the world. This is why the smallest, most insignificant things matter because of the butterfly effect.
