saturday 15th june 1959

the cold bite the air possessed sent shivers down connie's spine as she walked through the streets to meet richie at the carvern club. richie had told her the 'oh so important news' only it not being that he adored her. it was the news that he, now ringo starr on stage, had joined a new band. the beatles to be exact. connie couldn't understand why he left rory storm and the hurricanes to begin with but despite her burning desire to ask, connie felt it was only right to support her bestfriend in what he wanted. soon enough, once playing with the band, he'd notice that the beatles were rubbish and he should never had left at all.

or at least that's what connie hoped.

connie had never heard the beatles play before but she was certain their music could never come close to rory storm and the hurricanes.

stepping from out of the cold and into the heat of the cavern club, the stench of the place filled connie's nostrils. cigarette smoke, beer and vodka, sweat from the masses of bodies. she almost gagged but decided against it. if one thing was certain in connie's mind, it was that she'd do as she said. sit at the back of the club and watch the band play until they were finished. richie had promised connie that once their set was finished he'd bring the boys round to her table to introduce them to her and get in the swing of it all.

shifting her feet, connie sighed and pushed past kissing couples and rowdy college boys until she spotted a table near the back where she would still have a veiw of richie and vice versa. she felt anxious; her heart pounding against her ribcage as though it was asking to escape. connie never did well in crowds and whilst feeling ill with a cold she was no better than usual.

10 minutes later and the set was about to begin. richie walked on stage and connie could tell he was nervous.

connie looked richard dead in the eye, sending him a smile she knew would calm his nerves. with richies crush on connie it obviously worked, only the young lass oblivious to it and with a hit of the cymbals, the set had started and damn connie was wrong. the beatles were 100 times better than rory storm and the hurricanes (no offense to them or anything) and the boys had seemed to have put a trance on, not only the girls, but the boys and old people too!

they were just fab in connie's opinion and she found her self tapping her foot along to the beat of richies drums. the beatles set mostly consisted of covers though one song connie couldn't quite recognize had connie drawn in. she later found it was an original by the boys and was called 'in spite of all the danger.' the strong voices combined with the heavenly harmonies created a sound connie wouldn't get out of her head for the remainder of the night.

she knew who richie was, obviously, but she knew very little about the other three. however, connie knew instruments a little and could tell who played what. the boy playing bass had doe-like eyes and bopped his head alot whilst singing; all while wooing a fair amount of girls. to the other side of the stage was a guy playing rhythm guitar as he smiled widely and sang; being the one who seemed to sing the most but connie didn't mind she thought he had a great voice. the lad playing lead guitar, however, was a little more difficult to read; seeming quiet and shy but his guitar riffs did something to connie that she couldn't possibly explain for her heart beat a million miles an hour even at the mere sight of him.

the set was one to cherish, that was for sure and as the set finished connie couldn't help but become a little nervous herself by the fact she would meet these people whom raised the roof of the cavern club so connie sat, anxiously, waiting for a friendly face like richies to appear.

"so, ringo, who's your bird?" john asked, his ever so curious character peaking through his usually cocky act.
