The Letter

I pushed open the front door stepping into my living room where my mum sat in the living room glaring at me 

"Rhaelyn" my mother said in a stern voice, her eyes seeming to stare into my soul. "Do you know how late it is? You were supposed to be home hours ago! You have a curfew for a reason! It's not safe out after dark! You know this!" she said her voice getting louder and angrier as she continued. I looked at my feet trying to escape her eyes as I tried keeping the tears out of eyes. I don't do well when people raise their voice, my eyes start to water and I lose my ability to speak. I don't like upsetting my mother but I cant seem to do anything right. "RHAELYN! LOOK AT ME WHEN IM TALKING TO YOU!" my mother screamed. I looked up tears now spilling from my eyes unable to contain them anymore. My mother saw my face and instantly grew soft. "Rhaelyn." my mother said softer as she got up and walked over to me. " It's ok. I'm not mad at you. you just have to realize its not safe to be out after sunset. So I need you to make sure you come home on time. ok?" 

"Ok", I said," I understand mum, I'm sorry. I'm gonna head up to my room now." I turned wiping my eyes as I made my way up the stairs. I passed Kade's room seeing him studying at his desk. I kept walking till i got to the end of the hall and walked into my room quietly closing my door behind me. I went and sat on my bed looking back at my wet journal. I got up and set it on the window sill to dry as i head over to my mirror looking over my reflection. My brown eyes were puffy and swollen from crying and my face was flushed with dirt streaked on my face. My curly hair was frizzy and puffed up looking like a mess. I tamed it back into a ponytail before grabbing a rag and wiping the dirt from my face. I turned to go grab a book from my desk seeing a strange letter sitting amongst my study papers. I picked it up examining the writing that was scrawled out across the paper.

The handwriting was messy and a little difficult to make out. It read 

Rhaelyn Wiley of Aurelian

I opened the letter reading the message it held

Dear Ms. Wiley, 

You have been chosen to unite the kingdoms and defeat the Vermilion. A prophecy foretold decades ago states that you and the other three chosen ones will come together and combine your powers to save everyone. 

Come to the tallest tree in Gravendeen forest at midnight. I will be waiting there to explain more.

I stared at the letter confused by what it was telling me. I reread it a few times before i actually processed the words. I folded the letter back up and walked over to the window looking out at the forest. In the center of the forest a tree rose taller than the rest. I quickly looked over at the clock. It read 11:47pm.

I contemplated ignoring the letter. It was crazy and mum already said not to go out pass sundown but curiosity got the better of me and I turned to sneak out the window and make my way to the forest unknowing of what I would fine there.
