Jaral woke up in her bunk bed. She had been nervous the entire night, though one could argue it was just excitement.
She and the rest of the Ghost crew had been following the small flotilla of Phoenix Cell for three days now, and she had pondered hard for many hours on what her position on the matter would be. She had heard Hera and Kanan argue. The former was very eager to join the cell officially, but the latter wanted them to go back on their own once they had repaid the debt they had with Phoenix and Ahsoka.
After a day of internal debate, Jaral had decided to side with Hera. Not only that, she went to Darvos and commander Sato and asked if they were still looking for a pilot for the A-Wing parked in the hangar, and when they said yes, she volunteered immediately.
Hera, of course, was overjoyed. Jaral was like a daughter to the Twi'lek and it felt like the girl was following her surrogate-mother footsteps by enlisting as a combat pilot. Hera had immediately vouched for Jaral's abilities, so Sato decided to give her a chance.
Ezra was, to no one's surprise, completely in favor. He would support whatever made her sister happy, and even though he was worried at the possibility that she might leave the Ghost and be transferred aboard the Phoenix Home, he would still support her wholeheartedly.
Jaral had jokingly tried to reassure him by saying that, if she transferred, then he might move in the same room as Sabine.
Of course, if she got transferred, it would also mean that she would be closer to Darvos, the man who had just reaffirmed his commitment to her. That, however, was a thought that the always pragmatic Jaral managed to put in second place. Even if she got scouted and admitted into the Phoenix's fighter squadron, she still thought that staying on the Ghost would be the most efficient solution for her: she performed the best with its crew and especially when she and her brother fought side by side they were almost unbeatable.
Those thoughts and many others stormed into her head as she left the bunk and headed into the shower of her cabin's restroom.
When she got out, she noticed that Sabine was waking up as well.
"Morning, sis." Jaral teasingly said as she started to put her clothes on.
Sabine yawned and rubbed her eyes. "You are never going to drop that, uh?" she said with a silly smile.
"Wasn't you the one who told me that Mandalorians don't take relationships lightly?" Jaral asked with a knowing grin.
For Jaral, knowing that Ezra and Sabine were now in a relationship had been one of the best moments in the last months. She was simply happy that her little brother had found someone to like, and since she had come to see Sabine as her best friend, Jaral was happy for her too. Besides, she had noticed that the two shared a sentiment for quite some time, even trying to act as a matchmaker from time to time. The fact that the two teens had finally come around it and realized their feelings for each other had almost made her cry with joy.
"Might as well starting to get used to that name." Jaral kept going.
She was clearly implying that Sabine and Ezra would end up marrying one day. While Sabine believed it was way too early to bring that up, she never tried to reject it completely and simply shook her head whenever Jaral brought it up.
Still, that was just a morning joke. Sabine knew that this was gonna be a special day and could see a hint on nervousness in Jaral's movements.
"How do you feel?" Sabine asked.
Jaral was putting on her blue jacket.
"Nervous, freaked out...but thrilled." she said with a confident smile.
