Wilbur ran after the ram, in the direction it went. But he wasn't quite sure where it went. The ram had disappeared.
Thud.
The brunette suddenly heard the loud sounds of something falling down. A lot of rustling in the bushes that went down a hill covered in dead leaves.
Clamp.
What was that? It sounded like metal.. Wilbur thought.
He went over and moved the bushes out of the way, seeing the fluff ball at the foot of the hill. A small baa was heard from it.
Wilbur almost yelped when he saw blood. But he realized that the ram was still alive.
It's hoof was only caught in a bear trap.
The ram seemed like it was trying to leave, but it was stuck there.
Wilbur slowly walked down the hill towards the ram. He wasn't quite sure on why he started moving towards the poor thing. But he felt like he needed to. I have to help it..
The ram wanted to stay away from him, but it kind of just fell onto the ground and stood frozen, as its hoof wasn't getting out at all.
Wilbur crouched down in front of the ram. "Hey.. You remember me?"
He put his hand out to touch the ram, but the herbivore avoided contact, trying to pull away from the bear trap.
Wilbur pulled his hand back. Right.. I gotta focus on the bear trap.. He looked down at the bear trap.
How do I get this off of him..? He asked himself. He put his hands on the bear trap and pulled them a bit.
The ram pulled back, scared of what's going to happen.
"Hey, it doesn't help when you move. Stay still." Wilbur said.
The ram didn't seem to understand and stayed allow to the ground.
This is definitely a foothold trap.. They've got the mostly flat edges. Wilbur thought. But I didn't know they were this hard to reset.
His fingerless gloves were a good use of getting a good grip. Wilbur sighed and adjusted himself so he was on his knees.
Wilbur touched the ram's hoof to see where the spike on the trap was piercing. It made the ram start pulling again, baaing at the brunette.
He pulled his hands back. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry. I'm just trying to help you."
It felt as though he couldn't open the trap.
But then a thought came to his mind.
What if somebody is coming to see what's in their trap? I have to get this ram out or he'll be killed.. Are there people who hunt down rams? Wilbur would feel like an evil for leaving the ram to die.
Not like he wasn't before, anyways.
He took a deep breath, and grabbed one side of the metal and used his better hand to pull.
"Agh!" He winced in pain as he was able to pry the trap open.
The ram immediately pulled away and hopped up to its hooves. It had its body turned to the side, its head facing the brunette as its injured hoof grazed the ground.
