Dan grabbed his blanket and wrapped it around himself while walking toward his door. He opened the door and instead of walking across his room into Phil's he walked to the kitchen. He could still hear the rain pouring outside. He took a deep breath and chose to try and ignore it and make a cup of hot chocolate. Right as he opened the cupboard and grabbed a mug there was a bright flash of lightning followed by a loud clap of thunder. The sudden noise startled the tall brunette and the mug slipped out of his hand onto the hard floor, crashing into a million pieces. "Shit..." he mumbled under his breath. He sighed and bent down to try and pick up the broken bits of mug.
"Dan...? What are you doing?" He heard the voice of his flatmate Phil come from the entrance of the kitchen.
"Oh. Uhm. I-I wanted hot chocolate but I, uh, I dropped the thing." Dan stuttered. "It's like two in the morning, why now?" Phil questioned. Dan hesitated. "I just wanted it." Phil looked at the younger boy strangely before bending down to help him pick up the glass. After all of it was picked up Dan decided that he no longer wanted to be in the kitchen and was about to make his way back to his room when there was yet another strike of lightning and a boom of thunder. He tried his best to not show that he was afraid but clearly failed because moments later Phil had his arm around Dan's shoulders and was asking him if he was okay. Dan nodded, he didn't want Phil to know he had such a ridiculous, childish fear. He looked over at Phil who was only a few inches away from him. Dan thought about how easy it would be to kiss Phil, something he thought about a lot actually. Dan had liked the older boy for several years but never said anything about it so they could have a normal friendship without any awkwardness. He wiggled out of Phil's grasp and walked back to his room. When he got into his bed he again became aware of the storm outside. He heard the rain pouring outside his window and saw the bright flashes of lightning. Dan hid under his duvet like a small child, wishing he could be with Phil. As if on cue he heard a knock on his door.
"Yeah?" Dan asked
Phil opened the door "Dan, I can tell you're not okay. Is something bothering you?"
Dan hesitated. "Well...I know it's childish...but the storm...it's...it just frightens me I guess..."
Phil smiled weakly before walking over to dan's bed and sitting next to him. "Would you like for me to stay in here with you for a little bit?"
Dan felt better already at just the thought of Phil being there. He nodded. Phil crawled under the blanket with Dan and wrapped his arm around the younger boy's shoulders and pulled him closer. Dan nestled his face into Phil's neck. Phil soothingly rubbed circles onto dan's back. The next thing Dan knew he had fallen asleep
