~Later that afternoon~
I scan the ancient wooden shelves filled with books from every genre it seems. My eyes never leave the titles as I run my hands through the delicate, smooth and barely used spines. I come across one book that catches my eye; a picture book. I flip through it and realize it's an alphabet book. I smile seeing all twenty six letters with a cute phrase. I put it back where I found it and keep looking. I find another book, more suitable for a girl my age or any age actually. The cover is worn and slightly torn on the corners with the faded colors of blue and pink. The spine is worn but still in stable condition. It reads What to expect when you are expecting. I press the book into my chest as if to hide it. I walk to the checkout line. Mrs. Peters smiles when I come back. She takes the book and asks for a library card. I tell her I just moved here, so I don't have one. She fills it out for me and scans it. She hands me the credit card looking library card with the book.
"This book is due back November 23."
I thank her again and walk towards the exit. I walk to my car and get in. I turn on the car and turn down the volume of the music. I put the library card in my wallet and set the book in the seat next to me. I put on my seat belt and drive off back to the hotel. I pull in and grab the book. I walk into entrance and up to the room. When I walk through the door, Mason stands there with a frown-scowl. You hear laughing and talking in the bathroom. I start to quiver in fear. This isn't going to be good. Mason takes a step to me. I look like a deer in headlights. He walks to me and forces his lips on mine."Where were you," He asks in a tone above a whisper, pressing his forehead on mine.
"I..uh..went..uh..to the...um..library," I stamper out.
He rips the book out of my hands and looks at the title. He chuckles and slams the book into my chest.
"Have fun reading, you loser." He says removing his forehead.
He puts on his black Nike slip ons and leaves, slamming the door behind him. I sit down on the bed, scared that he's going to come back and hit me. I distract myself and read the first chapter of the book. In that time, Daniel, Cory, and Gage are done getting ready. They look cleaned up and nice looking. Almost like they did not have a hang over today. They leave without saying goodbye. I finish the chapter and lay it on the ground, gently. I pull back the covers of the bed and kick off my heels. I fall asleep, beyond exhausted.
