The pungent smell of corpses did not prevent the youth from completing his work. Collect some helpful items from the corpses he found. Travel from one city to another. Look for food supplies and continue his aimless journey. But he didn't care. He didn't want to die of despair.
Five years after the nuclear war, Earth is beyond recovering and may take a long time to be at what it was. As a result, the élite decided to leave Earth and seek a new Earth. Unfortunately, a successful trial couldn't be a guarantee. Inadequate capacity is suspected to be the cause of it failing to drill throughout the Earth's atmosphere. The Earth, which had lost three-quarters more of its population, became extremely chaotic. Malnutrition and the impact of radiation on the human body hastened the extinction.
The youth who looked to be in his twenties didn't frown at all. He just wiped the sweat hanging from the tip of his chin. After seeing nothing useful, he ready to continue his journey. There is a railroad line in the western part of Chicago city. He directed his solar-powered car into the path.
He began to wander in search of a breath that might still be on this Earth. He remembered that 110 nights had passed since the last time he had seen a living human other than himself. If it weren't for the effects of radiation, maybe loneliness would be the cause of his death later.
"OH!! I think I'm drunk, isn't that a child?!"
The youth stopped the car and took out his binoculars to see clearly. He gets excited knowing that maybe he is no longer the only one. The little boy who wore an EAS uniform immediately ran to the cabin where he had been living all this time.
"HEY! HEY KID, I don't mean to scare you. Don't go!"
The youth slowly talk to the child. Avoid gestures that seem aggressive. The little boy looked at him warily and curiously. "Who are you?"
"Me? I'm Brandon, you?"
"Dan... mom said I can't get out of the cabin until it opens on its own. But I'm hungry" The child said innocently.
Brandon pulled out a chocolate bun that had been in his hoodie pocket for some time. The child received it immediately and ate it slowly. Brandon noticed a tubular cabin hidden among the bushes. Maybe all this time, the child had been asleep in the small cabin for who knows how long. Brandon invites him to go together.
"Brandon, where are we going? Brandon, can we see the beach?"
Brandon smiled at that. After the loneliness, Dan's innocent voice gave him a new purpose. He wants to live as long as he can. He couldn't leave this child alone. Brandon is a mechanic who doesn't know how to deal with a child. However, he believes they will get along well. Hearing his name repeatedly shouted from someone else was something to be grateful for.
