Year 2056
"Remind me why am I the one doing this again."
It was the year 2056.
A lot had happened since 2037 when scientist had gotten ahold of a mysterious alien DNA. How did they get it? I dunno. Astronauts? Meteors? However it was obtained, it helped with our inventions greatly. How greatly?
Well...
Buildings are now floating
Cars are given the power of flight (also known as flight crafts) A/N lol flight crafts, I know, unoriginal. my creativity level right now isn't the highest.
Phones are made to be almost holographic,
And robots are made almost life-like.
The list goes on.Anyways, 19 years later, the first time machine was invented. It was decided for there to be a student chosen for a test run to go back to 2054. That way, the scientists are aware of the time machine being invented, so they wouldn't be too alarmed.
"Why are you the one doing this?" My mentor eyed me with disbelief. "Fiona, this a incredibly great honor. Many people would kill to be the first human alive to have traveled through time. Plus, you won't be long. It'll be there and back, quick as a snap." He snapped his fingers to add to the effect. "I don't understand why you don't seem excited."
I wasn't not excited. To be honest, this was the most excited I've been in a while. I was just... not so sure. How would they know I would be there for such a little time? For all they know, I could be stuck there for hours, or simply never come back... but, the thought of going back in time and becoming history seemed irresistible.
"Then... why me?"
The school I had been sent to to be tutored on time travel had about 20 students. There were students that were quick with thinking, some were strong as hulk, and some were fast as flash. What I didn't understand is why me. I didn't have smarts, freakishly strong muscles, or long legs.
"Because you have the strongest willpower." Scientist Asha suddenly appeared behind me. "Willpower is essential to not be ripped apart when going through the machine. Now, come over here." She pointed to a big machine. The machine looked complicated, as the inside was decorated with knobs, buttons and wires. But, I wouldn't have to worry about it. The scientists would be the ones who do most of the work.
Asha took me to a small room and shoved me a black suit. "This is so that your molecules won't end up scattered around the world." She explained. "I'll leave you some privacy as you put that on."

"Technicians?"
"Ready."
"Pressure?"
"Stable."The faint voices circled the outside of the time machine. My mentor popped up beside me. "Remember. Rule number one, do NOT interact with anyone or anything except for the scientists. We don't want to change the past." He looked at me with gleaming eyes. "Don't break that rule, alright?" And with that, he left, closing the machine door behind him.
"Ready for travel."
"Fiona, you there?"
I nodded, then remembered they couldn't see me.
"Yes"
"Alright"
"From the count of ten"
A robotic lady voice boomed.
"10"
"9"
"8"
"7"
My body started shaking from anticipation.
"6"
The machine roared to life.
"5"
"4"
My palms started sweating.
"3"
"2"
Suddenly there was a crash, and voices filled the before suspenseful atmosphere.
"1"
I faintly made out someone yell "CANCEL THE OPERATION!" in the midst of the commotion. But it was too late. I flipped the switch out of alarm and the insides lit up, indicating it was about to travel. A wave of nausea rushed over me and everything disappeared.A/N Hullo, please call me out on any grammar mistakes, it'll help with my writing a lot.
