Summary of the last chapter
Fiona was teleported back in time, only to find that the past was completely different. Buildings are built on the ground, and cars are still being used. Worst of all, the time machine is gone. She meets two fellow teenagers: Erin and Bai. It was then when she realized she wasn't in 2054.
Fiona was in 2021.
Year 2021
2021. The year along with 2020 that my teachers had made clear was the worst of their lives. They had said it was a living nightmare. But... to be honest it doesn't seem that bad. Teachers had said that thousands had died every day. Factories, schools, shops - basically the whole globe was shut down. People had lived in fear of getting the ... the... I forgot the name... Karen-19? Cooties-19? I forgot. Thankfully vaccines were made. I wished that I paid more attention to history class more than ever.
The event of 2019 to 2021 is now named the 19-curse.
My attention shifted back to the teenagers.
The two had an eyebrow raised. At least, Erin is raising her eyebrow. Bai is trying...and failing miserably.
Bai nudged Erin and whispered (loud enough for me to hear). "I really think she bonked her head too hard. Amnesia, perhaps? Why else would she be acting so weird?" Bai looked me around.
"Yeah, I think we really ought to call an ambulance," Erin answered, also whispering loudly, sticking her hands into her bag for something. "Let me ge-"
"Whoa whoa whoa. Wait." I interrupted before they got me wheeled into a hospital. That's the last thing I would want. "No need for that, I'm fine. But, have you seen a machine, perhaps? This tall," I raised my arm above my head. "has a lot of-" I fumbled my hands in the air. "-stuff?"
I know. Not the best description.
"Oh yeah, I think I saw a garbage truck pass by with this... whatever you just described towards the wasteland." Erin offered. I noticed she had taken the phone out of her bag, looking uncertain about my mental health.
I signed in relief. At least we know where it is.
"Is it really important to you?" She asked.
I nodded.
"How about...we go to my house? I'm not old enough to drive, and Bai doesn't have his driving license yet. My moms will be happy to drive you to the wasteland."
"But first" Bai piped up. "You need a mask."

"Are you not afraid of your house toppling?" I asked, eyeing her house. It was a tall house that looked three stories high. It was surrounded by other houses in a parallel line.
"Nah, I trust the architects," Erin said while taking keys out of her purse. I suppressed a whoa when she took it out. I've never seen anything like it before. Now (or in the future), to lock our house, there is an electric charge that keeps doors locked for us until we insert our DNA.
A lot of ancient objects that are priceless nowadays are everywhere in this town. Wherever you look, phones are being used. Sunglasses are carelessly placed on the collars of clothes. Cars are parked everywhere. The list goes on.
I adjusted my mask. It felt like it was suffocating in here. How do people breathe in this?
"The door's unlocked, come on!"
I walked through the door and was amazed by the sight. As soon as I walk in, there's a rug with a shoe rack. I glanced at Erin and Bai, and they are taking off their shoes. I took mine off too.
