Dragon Boy

"Magic?" Was the first thing I asked when we entered the city, which I learned was called Fantasia. "I didn't think that was real."

Zia stared at me. "Where did you get raised? Did you not know that everyone has at least a little bit of magic in them?"

Maya elbowed Zia. She urgently whispered, "She doesn't remember that! It was erased from her, so don't go asking like that!"

"What was erased? Did I once live here?" I ask, hearing the statements at once. "Tell me."

Maya sighed. "No. You didn't."

My fox ears twitch, somehow sensing a lie. "You're not telling the truth." I addressed the issue, admitting that I don't know how I know.

Zia poked Maya. "See, I told you she's a Rune-born."

I'm confused. "What's a Rune-born?"

Maya was saying that a person called Xene will explain when a red-headed boy ran up shouting, "Hey new person! Look how big a flame I can make!"

He turned into a crimson dragon and threw a short spurt of flame in my general direction. It unfortunately hit a blonde boy passing by and set his hair aflame.

Zia shouted, "Houston, we have a problem!" as she raced to put it out. The boy huffed. "Stop saying my name like that!"

Maya was confronting the boy, who was crying. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do it to Houston."

I went over to him. Maya sighed. "Preston, I know you didn't mean to, but you do it to someone almost every time you breathe fire. Try harder to paying attention, and you won't hurt anyone."

Preston sighed. "I'll try."

He looked at me. "What's your name? I'm Preston Skyborne."

"Kia... Kia Marati, I think."

Preston holds out his hand. "Hi, Kiakia Marati. Can I call you Kiki?"

"No." I shake my head.

"Okay Kiki. Come on, I wanna show you something!" He runs off, yelling at me. Maya laughs murmuring, "That's Preston for you."

I run to hurry up, though he's far ahead of me. "I said NO!!" I yell back at him.
