'And how are you today June?' the Headteacher asks politely.

I smile and say, ' About as good as can be expected Miss.'

She doesn't reply, a slight frown gracing her face. We fall into an awkward silence.

'What is going on, Miss?' I ask, having had enough of the wait.

'Somebody is here to see you, June,' She replies. ' Don't look so worried, everything is fine.'

After  a time of pure silence, we pause at a door. She knocks and a muffled enter can be heard. She pushes the door open and gestures for me to step inside. I do, the door closes behind me and I am left in the darkened room. It takes a moment for my eyes to adjust. When I can see properly, I spot a familiar face sat behind a desk. He stands.

Says, 'My Lady'. He bows his head, there is no warmth on his face.

'Do not call me that.'

'Of course, Lady June.'

I sigh and slump into a seat opposite the Queen Mother's Adviser. I wave my hand at him, 'Please, don't stand on my account.'

And he sits.

'Why are you here, Sir? I wasn't expecting a visit for at least a few weeks.'

'There has been a change of plans, the Queen would like for her daughter and her loyal Ladies-in-waiting to return to the Royal Court earlier than planned.'

'The Queen Mother.'

'Excuse me?'

'You said the Queen. May I remind you sir, that she is no longer the Queen, she is Queen Mother. Why does she want this?'

'I believe that a wedding is occurring, the Queen Mother would like to...' he pauses, searching for the right word, 'upstage it with the arrival of Her Majesty.'

'So it is simply rivalry? Jealousy? That is petty, even for her. This is a decision that she is unable to make, what does Queen Florence think about this decision?'

'Um... Well she has yet to be informed of this new development, My Lady.'

'Then inform her of this 'development' and let her know that I request to remain here at school until I have completed my education. The world has waited sixteen years to meet Her Majesty and her Ladies, I think they can wait a few weeks longer.'

'Of course, I apologise My Lady.'

Without waiting for a dismissal, I stand abruptly and head back to class. A proud smirk on my lips.
