The day of the Queen's return has arrived, and everyone is on edge. Throughout the morning, I experience the pain of the wasps in my stomach. I'm dressed similarly to how I was a few days ago, hair down, kitten heels and a midi dress in emerald green this time. Nobody has been successful in taming my hair, thank god.
I decide to play one more song on the piano before I go. My fingers move over the keys and I find myself playing 'Your Song' by Elton John.
I belt it out, let myself revel in the music and it washes over me. Through the song, I travel faraway from here, to a place of peace and happiness.
' -While you're in the world...'
As I finish I hear a sharp intake of breath, I turn to find Kit standing there. Suddenly I'm embarrassed, my cheeks feel warm and I'm flustered. Nobody has heard me sing and I don't like this. I stand too quickly and lose my balance, toppling forward on the awkward height of my shoes. Strong arms come around me, and I feel hot breath on my cheeks. My heart is beating so loud and fast, it can be heard in the forever lands.
'I've got you, My Lady,' Kit says gently. 'Can you stand?'
I push away from him, smooth my hands over my skirt and say; 'Of course, you just took me by surprise, is all.'
'Of course, My Lady.' And the amused look is back in his eyes although, his face is blank as paper. 'I came to tell you that the car is ready to take you to the plane, Lady June.'
'Thank you,' I say. But I'm still shaky from the moment before, to speak his name.
Out in the corridor, I follow Kit down to the entrance hall where the Queen's Ladies wait. Upon seeing me Grace exclaims; 'June, you look a little red, are you feeling okay?'
I send her a glare.
