Derek doesn't know what prompts him to say the next words. Maybe it's because the boy mentioned the word first. Maybe it's the lack of sleep finally catching up to him. "Okay, bye. Love you."
The answer is immediate. An automatic response, that's the only thing that explains it.
"Love you too. Bye."
Neither of them hangs up.
Derek only wanted to order some pizza....
