KYLE

Annie was sitting across the lunch room with her cheerleader friends. She was so beautiful when she laughed. She was always beautiful.

"Bro, are you staring at that girl again? Give it up man, girls like her don't go for guys like you." my friend Matt shook my shoulder and passed the join under the table. He was right for once. Straight A's beautiful, cheerleader girls don't give straight F's, grungy, druggie guys a second glance. She probably doesn't even know I exist. I pinched the joint between two fingers under the table. All the sudden it didn't seem all that appealing to me. With one last longing sigh and glance towards Annie, I passed it back to Matt and got up and walked in the opposite direction.

I was sitting outside behind the school toying with a pack of Malboro's and my lighter, fighting the urge to light up.

"Screw it." I pulled out a cigarette and shoved the rest back in my jacket pocket, Unfortunately, my lighter was being a pain in the ass and wouldn't light. I was still screwing with it when someone stuck a lighter in my face. I looked up to the face that belonged to the hand holding the lighter. Speechless. There, standing in front of me with a sweet smile was Annie.

"You look like you could use some help." She laughed softly and sat down next to me. "Kyle right?" I just nodded and took the lighter. "Him I'm Annie. I don't think we've met."

"We move in different circles." was all I said.

"Yeah, it's a shame. You're pretty cute." She glanced sideways at me and I felt my cheeks burn. "Especially when you blush," she added.

Out of common curtiosy, I pulled my pack of cigarettes and offered her one, though I thuroughly expected her to decline. To my surprise she pulled one out and reached for her lighter. I chuckled.

"What?"

"I'm just surprised."

"What? Girls like me can't have a smoke every now and then?"

"I just... never mind."

"Nuh-uh," she gave me a sly grin. "It's just what? Kyle? You better tell me."

"Or What?" I asked with a silly grin. She reached into my jacket pocket and brought her face close to mine, trying to distract me while she pried the cigarettes out of my hand. Her kiss was soft and sweet, but all too short. In the blink of an eye she pulled away with my box of cigarettes; taunting me for and answer to a question I forgot.

"Annie?!?!" all the sudden desperate calls of the cheer-leading squad for their head cheerleader came our way.

"Annie! Come on we have to practice the new routine before the game tomorrow. Annie? Where are you? Annie! Come on Annie let's go! We want to have time for sushi afterwards."

Annie smiled at me "Duty calls," she said. "guess I'll see you around." and with that she put out her cigarette and took off. I shoved my headphones in my ears, my hands into my jacket pockets and headed for anywhere but here.

It's no surprise that I ended up at the mall, but stoned of my ass and not wanting to deal with damn rent-a-cops, I hid in the parking garage for an hour before grudgingly going home.

Her face haunted my every memory, her kiss lingered on my lips. That was one mother-fucker of an hallucination... but I wasn't that high. I shut myself up in my room. Linda (more commonly know as Diamond, her stupid stripper name) , my mom, was drunk as usual, and so was her boyfriend. At the first sign of screaming, yelling and glass-breaking, I blasted Asking Alexandria through my surround-sound speakers and dug out the bottle stashed in my closet as well as the bag of pre-rolled blunts in my dresser.

When I woke up it was noon, school was all but over. I looked down at the bloody carpet and my blue jacket that now had red stripes. My razor was on the floor across the room. I refused to even think about what exactly happened last night, I probably wouldn't remember anyways. All I knew is what the evidence showed. I turned off my stereo and assessed the scene. No point in trying to get to school at this point. Laying on my floor next to the wall was an empty bottle of Jack that appeared to be broken. Close to where I woke up was my lighter and an empty zip-loc bag. On the opposite side of the room lay a bloody razor. One look at my forearms and sure enough, both were zig-zagged with cuts old and new.  My phone was siting on my bed blinking an annoying red light. Four missed calls and six text message. All four missed calls and five of the messages were from Matt, all wondering where the heck I am... apparently he got some "new stuff" he wanted to try out. The last text was from an unknown number. Upon reading it I was pleasantly surprised.

"It's Annie, I pried ur number out of that kid I always see you with. Matt? Yeah I was just wondering if you were plannin on showing up at any point. I have some time after the school and before the game if you wanna chill some where."

So she wants to see me! I feel like a fucking retard for being this excited. Regardless I decided to clean up, and head to school... after the bell rang. And to the surprise of many, I was going to attend a high school football game.
