blue's POV:
I woke up in the badger set, confused as I realized the lack of warmth on my flank. I half opened my eyes and looked around, trying to avoid the bright evening sun that was unfortunately facing the den."White'tail?" I murmured, pawing at my muzzle to wake myself up. I blinked a few times as I realized the older tom wasn't in the set. I rolled onto my side and stood up to stretch. I let out a squeaky yawn as I did so. I shook out my pelt briefly before finally peering outside. He usually doesn't leave until I wake up...I wonder where he is. I thought, staring at the snow dusted ground in front of me. I sat on my haunches and sighed. My fur needs grooming...white'tail would normally be here to do it for me, but not today I guess. I then licked my declawed paws and cleaned behind my ears.
Maybe I'm too dependent on him...this is my responsibility after all, not his. I should be doing this anyway. I thought, flipping over on my side to groom my slightly ruffled pelt. I then heard a faint rustle in the nearby bushes. I thought nothing of it, but I decided to angle my ears in the direction of the sound just in case. I heard the sound again, louder and closer this time. I started to turn around but I froze, remembering what white'tail taught me when I said I was defenseless due to me being declawed and weak.
It's okay to be weak blue, but you are strong when it comes to strategy, use that. If you think something or someone is sneaking up on you, don't turn around. That will alert whatever's stalking you and they might attack. Turn your attention to the sound or presence of your attacker, but not too much. Just keep doing what you're doing. If they get closer, let them know you are aware by flicking your tail and angling your ears at them. Try not to give away the fact that you're declawed. Now let's try it!
I took a deep and slightly shaky breath and flicked my tail with as much confidence as I could, straining my ears towards the sound of paws. It was nerve wracking not being able to see my opponent, but I trusted white'tail so I resisted the urge to turn around or run. Suddenly the paws sped up...a lot. They were running towards me!
I yelped at the sudden noise and turned around, bracing for impact. I only saw a flash of black and gray before I felt the heavy weight of another cat throw me into the snow. We both tumbled around in the snow, wrestling for a few seconds before the tom pinned me. Well, It seemed like a tom judging from the weight. I started panicking so I closed my eyes and started flailing my paws, trying to push the body off of me. I could barely breathe because the tom was so heavy! "G-get off!! P-please!" I begged breathlessly. I then caught a whiff of the tom's scent on top of me and stopped flailing. I opened my eyes. "White'tail!" I breathed in relief. "Hey lil blue~~" He purred gently in my ear, blowing hot air. "You scared me you meanie!! And I'm not short, you're just really tall!" I pouted, batting his face. He chuckled and backed off of me. I took in a much needed breath of chilly air.
"Sorry, sorry!" He laughed. "I saw you just sitting there so I thought I'd sneak up on you for fun." I rolled onto my side to face him. "How was that fun? You scared me half to death! My life flashed before my eyes!" I hissed. He smiled at me and I could've sworn he was glowing. His smile is just so pure. "I was also testing you to see how much you really trust me. I'm glad you used my strategy." I was a little offended. "Of course I did!" I meowed in a pouty voice. "That's bad." He said flatly, sitting back on his haunches. "Why is that bad?" I questioned, even though I knew the answer. "Because, you shouldn't trust me at all." He said calmly. I rolled my eyes and ignored him.
