Blue's POV:
"White'tail!!" I shouted, panic edging my voice. No matter how hard I tried to calm down the trembling nerves in my body, I couldn't stop shaking like a newborn kit. "White'tail p-please answer!" I yowled. I could see my near-frozen breath in front of me as I yelled for the older tom cat relentlessly. "P-please this isn't funny!!" I added while limping around the Thunderclan territory, determined to find the reckless Egyptian mau. This is all my fault. I thought bitterly, wincing from the painfully cold wind, coupled by the even more painful throbbing in my left hind leg. If only i didn't complain about my hunger so much and been such a bee-brained baby he wouldn't have ran after that stupid fox!
Me and white'tail had been traveling a lot. As the weather grew colder and the prey grew scarce, he seemed to get more and more stressed. Mainly about me and how comfortable I was. I had told him I was hungry and could use some prey and of course white'tail, being white'tail ran off to find prey. He had found a hare fat enough to fill my belly which was, and I quote, "The most important thing." Although if I ate my fill, he wouldn't have enough, which concerned me. He told me not to worry and that he could go weeks without food which, I knew was a lie. He was getting skinnier every moon since we left his clan.
By the way, I'm a rogue and he is indeed a clan cat by birth. The older tom had left his clan, his whole family for me...I still feel bad that he gave up that comfortable life. I can tell he's lost weight. He belonged to the Thunderclan which is why we hunt here. White'tail knows the best places for prey, especially in leaf-bare.
Anyway, despite these facts, I agreed to eat my fill just so he would stop worrying. Before I could lay a single paw on the plump and enticing prey in front of me, a fox had pelted in the way, growling as it swiped a paw much too close to my muzzle. I gasped in fear and jumped back as I felt my fur stand on end. As the fox lunged forward again, White'tail had immediately grabbed my scruff and hauled me out of the foxes reach. The fox, knowing we were shocked, let out an ear-piercing cackle and picked up the hare in its jaws and half limped, half pelted away smugly. White'tail was of course infuriated. I could hear his breath quickening. "H-hey it's fine! We can find more food", I said trying to calm the large tom who was trembling with anger. "No, it's not! That fox stole your prey! It doesn't belong to him!" He snarled, tail lashing angrily. "I'll get it back for you blue", He added springing after the already injured fox who had surprisingly made quite a bit of distance. "No! White'tail it isn't worth it, you can't kill a fox!" I yelped as I ran after the male cat at full speed which still didn't help much.
White'tail's long legs gave him quite the advantage speed wise which quickly ate up the distance between him and the fox that stole our prey. The only downside is, my shorter legs struggled to keep up with him. I was already huffing from running so fast, willing my legs to run faster. "White'tail!" I yowled breathlessly, my breath visible through the chilly air. I saw his ears twitch and he slowed down slightly. I ran faster, determined to catch up with him. To my dread I saw him speed up more. He must have spotted the fox! I thought, half relieved that I wouldn't have to wait much longer for food but also half afraid, as I knew it was impossible to catch up to him now. To my horror, my formerly bad leg gave out when I started speeding up. I let out a strangled gasp of pain and surprise as I hit the snow-covered ground with a muffled thud. I groaned and sat up on my side, gingerly licking my injured leg. Just great. Now I'm even further behind, I thought with a snarl.
I winced as I got to my paws which felt really heavy. I swayed a little, realizing the sharp pain in my head coupled with the dizziness I felt. I groaned in pain and pawed at my ringing ears. I ignored the pain and kept searching for white'tail who must be somewhere around here. I walked for a while, calling out the larger tom's name every now and then hoping he would hear. Suddenly I stumbled over a thick tree root, concealed by the fresh snow. I let out a yowl of surprise as I landed in a cold snow drift and winced as I had unfortunately landed on my injured leg. I silently cursed my luck and crawled out of the drift. StarClan, why do you hate me? I've done nothing wrong! I snarled to myself. I felt warm blood trickle from my head which only made me more dizzy and disoriented.
I then heard the familiar but unpleasant yelp of white'tail, it was a mixture of pain and surprise that made my belly churn. "White'tail!!" I yowled hoarsely from the pain and snow logged in my throat.I was unfortunately unable to run to his aid. I heard loud pawsteps along with the painful yelps of a fox. I tried hard to pinpoint the location of the sounds but the pain was unbearable. I couldn't focus at all. StarClan protect white'tail! Please! I willed silently. I wouldn't make it if something happened to the larger tom cat.
After a few minutes of listening to the sounds of battle, wondering who was winning I heard the sound of a body hitting the floor. My stomach dropped. Was it white'tail? I can't tell! Oh, StarClan, please bring him back to me! Almost as if I was getting an answer, I saw white'tail emerge from the thicket to my left carrying the hare carcass triumphantly but bleeding badly and stumbling over his own paws. I felt dizzy with relief as I got to my paws and ran to my mate, basically crashing into him but I didn't care. I could tell he didn't either. We stood there trembling in each other's gentle embrace, not daring to move away. We simply couldn't. I swore to myself I'd claw his pelt off for doing something so reckless the moment I had the strength. I was angry but I wouldn't show that. For now this is all that matters to me.
Alright um...If there are any errors please excuse them but other than that hope you semi-enjoyed chapter one...? Next chapter will be up sometime tomorrow :)
