Everyone had a soulmate, but everyone's appeared in different ways. Some never saw color until they saw their soulmate. Some would taste everything their soulmate tasted.

Y/N first discovered her soulmate when she was in fifth grade. Whatever her soulmate wrote on their skin, would appear on hers and vice versa.

She could remember it clearly, the first time something appeared on her skin. It started off like any normal Saturday morning for young Y/N. She woke up around 8 and stretched before heading to the bathroom to brush her teeth. That was when she saw it. A bunch of bold, messy black doodles all over her face.

A mustache above her lip, a huge smiley face on her left cheek, poorly drawn glasses around her eyes, and "XD" on her right cheek.

At first, she thought it was her older brother, Daniel, and she almost screamed his name, when she noticed a mark on her arm. She pulled up the sleeve of her t-shirt she wore to bed and in big bad letters was "ALEX ES UN PINCHE PUERCO". A language she didn't recognize, is that French or Italian? she thought to herself.

Then it then hit her, it couldn't have been her brother who wrote all that onto her, he was taking Korean as his foreign language in high school and her parents wouldn't do that to her.

She just so happened to have read a "scary" goosebumps book the night before, so Y/N came to the conclusion that it was a demon. At the time, it seemed like the only possible reasoning for the words on her skin.

The idea of it being her soulmate hadn't even hit her. Most people found out about their soulmates later in life or from birth. Plus, Y/N had never heard of anyone who could communicate to their soulmate like this. The only things she'd heard of were what the people around her had experienced. Like how Daniel and his soulmate had matching tattoos that had been there since the day Daniel was born. Or how her parents had a red string on their fingers, tying them together, that only they could see.

She ran to her parents' room sobbing about how there was a demon after her. They woke up frantically, both worried about their daughter who was shaking in front of them.

"Look at my face! And my arm! There are words in another language! It's probably some evil language! Some monster is after me, just like the demon ghost in my book!", she sobbed and looked up at her parents. Her mom smiled and her dad laughed.

"What!? Why are you guys laughing!? I'm going to die!", she exclaimed, shocked at how her parents could take such a situation so lightly!

And that's when they told her, this was her soulmate. Turns out, this was a pretty common way that soulmates could communicate.

"B-but why would they draw on my face!?" Y/N asked, confused about the whole situation. Her parents laughed again.

"If you didn't know that your soulmate could do this, your soulmate probably didn't know either. And actually, this looks more like a prank that someone did on them instead of something they did to themselves", Y/N's mom replied.

Now that part made sense to Y/N, but there was still one more question on her mind.

"Okay, but what about this weird language on my arm!?", she asked, which just made her parents laugh more. "Y/N, that's Spanish", her dad told her.

10 year old Y/N had never felt so stupid.

Her parents ushered her out of the room, telling her that they wanted to sleep in more. So, Y/N went to take a shower to wash the marker off her face. She wanted to write something for her soulmate to see, too. She wondered if they even spoke English. If there was Spanish on her arm, what if that was the only language they knew?
