I gulped nervously as my dad drove my family and I to the burger place. I was not one to be scared of going there, but tomorrow would be my first day of highschool.
My mom decided to stop homeschooling because she had found her true calling as a first grade teacher. There was no way she was going to leave me home alone without any education.
"Are we there yet? I'm hungry!" My little sister complained. She was eight years old and unlike me, liked to go to school. It was easy for her since she had it easy. No hard math or English.
"We're almost there," Dad replied. He was a charming man in his early fourthies with a good job. My mother was in her late thirties. she was an awful lot like me. The only difference was that I was shy.
"Mom, must I go to school?" I asked out of the blue. My brother, B/n, laughed. He looked up from his phone.
"Did you seriously just ask that?" B/n was two years older than me and never took anything seriously.
"Yes y/n, you're going to school and that's final," Mom said. I let out a sigh. Moments later, Dad parked the car in front of "The Burger Place Next Door." That was the name. Don't judge me, I didn't come up with it.
"We're here!" Mom exclaimed and getting out of the car.
"Yay," I muttered unenthusiastically. This was possibly going to be the last day I ever ate a hamburger because highschool was going to tear me apart like an old sweater.
I got out of the car and jumped onto the sidewalk.
"Tada!" I said. S/n decided to do the same thing, and she did.
"Did you see that Y/n? I did it!" She said. I put on a smile.
"Good job!" I said, clapping my hands. Dad opened the door and let us in. Mom took a booth and sat down with B/n and S/n. I was going to sit down too, but Mom stopped me.
"Nuh uh," she said. "You're going to go with your Dad and order with him." I frowned.
"Must I?" I whined.
"Yes," Mom replied with a firm voice. I groaned and went up to the counter with Dad. There was a family in front of us, waiting for their turn to order.
It was a family of five. One of the boys had golden hair, while the other had black hair. They both seemed my age. There was a tall girl with black hair standing next to an old man and a pretty lady with blonde hair. They seemed like a nice family.
"Hello," one of the boys said. He must've caught me looking at him.
"Uh, hi," I whispered. I nervously rubbed my fingers together.
"My name is Loki, what's yours?" He asked. I held my head down low and stared at the floor.
"It's uh, Y/n." I said, looking at my f/c sneakers. "Nice to meet you," I mumbled.
"It's nice to meet you too, Y/n," Loki responded. I looked up and smiled.
"So uh, what school are you going too?" I asked.
"I'm going to Lee's Academy," he replied.
"Oh wow really?! I'm going there too!" I exclaimed. "I'll guess I'll see you tomorrow." Loki smiled.
"I guess so." I giggled.

I munched on my French fries as I looked outside the car window. Highschool suddenly didn't feel so scary anymore. Now that I had a friend, it just might me easier for me.
"What'cha thinking about?" S/n asked. I looked at her with a smile.
"School," I replied, "school is what I am thinking about."
