A/n - Look what's finally updating jk jk Honestly, I still have no idea where this storyline's going. On with the fic!
The next few days were filled with Dipper and Mabel getting used to their new environment. This included getting lost a few times, but by the 30th they had at least the main parts of the building memorized. Mostly.
However, as the end of the month approached there were two problems that came with it. First of all, the school year would be starting soon and neither of the Stans were quite sure what they would be doing for the twins education. But the other issue was much more important. August 31st was the birthday of Dipper and Mabel Pines.
"What do you kiddos usually do for your birthday?" Stan brought up as the family was relaxing.
The younger twins gave each other a glance. "We spend longer in the forest," Mabel began, "We'll look for each others favorite foods and give them to each other. Sometimes we even buy each other a little trinket if we can afford it!"
"We end the day by stargazing!" Dipper smiled, "But, that's about it."
Hmm... a day outside hanging out. Then, the Stans could throw them a surprise party and they could end the day by stargazing! It'd be perfect!
"Is there anything you two want for your birthday?" Ford asked.
"I've always wanted a pet!" Mabel exclaimed, "Like... a pig!" She suggested, holding up a drawing of a cute, pink pig. Stan gave a chuckle at the drawing.
Dipper tapped his pen on his chin in thought, "Hmm... I've always wanted to try chocolate. But, I know it's really expensive so don't worry about it!"
"You've never had chocolate before?"
Dipper shook his head.
"You're coming with me," Ford exclaimed sternly. Dipper followed as Ford lead him to the kitchen and handed him a chocolate bar. "Try it!"
"Are... are you sure?"
Ford nodded. Dipper bit into the bar. He was silent for a few minutes and continued to eat it. "I... how... what...?"
Ford chuckled, "Did you know chocolate can trigger your brain to release dopamine? A chemical that plays a role in improving your mood!" Dipper smiled even wider.
By nightfall, the Kings had decided not only on plans for the following day, but also on what gifts and desserts to get Dipper and Mabel. They were both anxious to celebrate.
Now if only the weather would cooperate Ford thought. It'd been storming all early morning and the man had hoped it would lighten up. However, it seemed to do the exact opposite as lightning cracked outside. Guess spending the day outside was a bust.
"FORD-" Stanley screeched, "What are we gonna do about-"
"I know, I know," Ford quickly replied, "The weather sucks. But we still have the surprise party for them. We'll figure it out, I'm sure!"
"Figure what out?" Mabel exclaimed, bouncing into the room. A sleepy Dipper followed behind her.
"What are you doing up, pumpkin? It's like what? Seven? Do kids still sleep past seven?" Stan mused outloud.
"The thunder woke us up!" She exclaimed, "Well, it woke me up! And I woke Dipper up by screaming HAPPY BIRTHDAY at him! Also, I couldn't sleep! It's our birthday!" She beamed, "Are we gonna spend the day in the forest like we usually do?"
She seemed so happy. Ford hated to break her heart, "Mabel, my dear. It's pouring out," Ford sighed.
Mabel cocked her head, confused, "S-so? Dipper and I've been out in the rain all the time! In worse weather than this! In blizzards! A little rain isn't gonna stop us!"
Stan got down on one knee to be able to look her in the eyes, "Sweetie, look. You and your brother were probably freezing and cold before right? I mean, the weather is awful!" The loud thunder helped to prove his point. "We can't have you two going outside in this! You don't wanna catch a cold, do you?"
"No..." she sighed sadly.
"But," Mabel perked up at Ford's words, "We still have something planned!" He smiled.
Mabel beamed again, "Really?"
"Mhm," the Stans nodded and led the kids to the dining room. However, the table was now covered in different desserts, most notably a chocolate cake in the center that read HAPPY BIRTHDAY DIPPER AND MABEL. A pile of presents were sitting off to the side.
"How'd you guys get all this chocolate?" Dipper asked, glancing at the Kings.
Stan waved him off, "Eh, don't worry about it. It's not like we stole it or anything!"
"Stanley!" Ford elbowed him, "We didn't steal anything, son. We had the cake specially made for you two and we bought the other treats."
"Enough of the chitchat!" Stan exclaimed, tossing Mabel a box, "Why don't you open this?"
Mabel carefully opened the box, "...a brush for pigs and pig food... I don't get it... wait! Are you guys serious? We're actually getting a pig?"
Stan smiled, "We'll go pick them out later today!"
"THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU-" Stan chuckled at Mabel's antics.
"Calm down, kiddo. You still got more to open and so does your brother," Stan smiled, "You're welcome, by the way!"
"Here my boy, open this one!" Ford handed Dipper a box. It sounded like there were dice inside...? Dipper unwrapped the box to reveal another box. It read "Dungeons, Dungeons, and More Dungeons,"
Stan rolled his eyes, "Ah Sixer! You're trying to get him to play your nerd game!"
"I have a feeling you'll like this," Ford smiled at Dipper, ignoring Stan's comment, "I'll teach you how to play!"
Dipper nodded, "Cool! Thanks King Ford!"
The rest of the day went relatively well. The birthday twins enjoyed their gifts and treats. Ford was correct in assuming Dipper would enjoy the game, as they didn't notice how long they were playing until Stanley and Mabel returned with a 15-pound pig the latter decided to name Waddles.
That was one issue out of the way! Now what to do about Dipper and Mabel's education...
