It was a beautiful day in Wyoming. It was a high of 98 and a low of 73. Although that seemed very overbearing for many people, it was almost perfect for Dan. Where he was headed he didn't mind the scorching temperatures. Sure, he might get a little burnt. And come to think of it he was very low on Aloe Vera. But that didn't bother him too much.

Dan was an aspiring musician. A "rocker" as they all called him. Growing up he didn't like all the new music. He always complained that it all sounded the same. But as soon as his dad played a Heart song on the radio one day, it was over. Ever since then, it had been his lifelong goal to be a rocker. He knew how to play guitar. He had a very bluesy raspy tone and could belt his way out of anything.

However, Dan struggled with the softer singing techniques. He couldn't use his head voice very well, and God knows what it would take for him to get a whistle register. But that didn't matter to him. He was comfortable where he was in life, just an aspiring performer.

Usually, Dan would play on the streets and earn tips for wandering people, but now and then he had to pick up a job, but that didn't bother him too much. He was starting to get popular, and even had a video on YouTube with 20k views. Although it may not seem like much, he started building a small fan base. A good 1384 people followed him, and always complimented his singing. It made him feel so amazing, a feeling he didn't get anywhere else.

Sometimes Dan would falter when he sang. He would hit a bum note or accidentally have a voice crack. It happened to all of us, nobody is perfect. But to Dan, it was a huge deal. So Dan decided to enroll himself in a program for aspiring musicians. He figured it would be a fun opportunity for him to learn some more about music.

Dan's friend Cameron called him and asked him if he wanted to join. It took some convincing to get him in, but Dan reluctantly agreed to go. It was something Cameron's father liked to do every few months, it gave Cameron chances to meet new people and learn more from them. No music lessons, just a week at a giant log cabin, getting to know each other better. It seemed to have positive results and was free of charge. Maybe the trip would be a good thing for Dan.

Dan was riding with Cameron in the car through the woods. It was a fun car ride. The two would argue over what songs to play in the car almost the entire time they rode together. This of course was no exception. Cameron was always into gospel and soul music. Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, James Brown, you name it. The songs on the car would change from a Whitney Houston song to Led Zepplin, depending on who got a say on things. Quite an interesting car ride.

"Man I love you but every time you play one of these songs I just get a headache. All these guys just scream." Dan protested in the car, as "You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman" played.

This of course offended Cameron. "I'm sorry what did you just say? They do not scream, it's called belting." Cameron protested, mocking Dan.

Dan did not budge. "But still, there are singers who don't scream like they do."

"Okay and? Powerhouses are way more fun to listen to. Generic voices always got on my nerves."

"Yeah, but they also don't give you a headache."

"Boy I'm about to push you out of this damn car," Cameron said, running a hand through his dreadlocks.

"If you insist!" Dan said, teasingly.

Before Cameron could argue anymore, he stopped and looked forward. Dan glazed his eyes away from his friend and looked at the gigantic cabin. At least 3 stories. Beautifully carved wood statues of bears stood outside, saying the family's last name "Penn" on their bellies. It was a gorgeous house. The lake was right next to them, and judging from the drive, they weren't too far from places to eat out.

Sitting outside the house was a girl in a flannel and tank top, with some really cute "E girl" makeup on.

"Who is that?" Dan said with curiosity.

"That's Renae. She will be staying with us at the cabin for the week. We will have three more people with us. Renae's crush Emma, a guy named Archie, and another guy named Corey."

"Renae's crush Emma- wait-"

Cam put a finger to his mouth. "Don't start."

Dan smiled and giggled a little. He was of course fine with it. Who wouldn't be? It's the 21st century. He was more excited that there would be something for him to fangirl over during the stay.

The two men got out of the car and grabbed the suitcases from the back, Renae making her way over with a big smile on her face.

"Boo is that you?" She said to Cameron, to which he replied.

"Hell yeah boo!"

He walked over to Renae and gave her a big hug. The two obviously have met before. They both broke away from the hug and started talking to each other, barely audible to Dan's ears. Dan finished getting out his suitcase and slammed the car door down, burning his hand on the metal a little.

Dan slowly made his way over to the two, with a welcoming smile on his face. Cameron turned around and walked over to Dan and put his arm over his shoulder. "This is my best bro Dan. He's a rocker."

Dan shook his hand out for Renae to take, but Renae shoved it past him and gave him a big hug. Dan was surprised by the gesture, but hugged her back, feeling her positive vibes. They were gonna get along just fine.

Renae pulled back and put a hand on his cheek. "Why hello Dan. It is so nice to meet you. Do you believe in zodiac signs-"

"Not now Renae," Cameron stated with a laugh.

Renae rolled her eyes and giggled. "Fine."

Everyone let out small giggles before the question came up. "When is everyone getting here?"

The first chapter is complete!!! Just a basic story-building chapter, introducing you to some characters! There are more to come, but for now, leave your opinions!! Am I doing good so far?

Hopefully, Dan is a likable Protagonist. I've always been a rocker and he is kind of reminiscent of me.

See you next chapter!!!
