Months of training had past, and Akihito was finally able to take beat Tanjiro.

He had done the same technique as before, but Akihito was a lot quicker to react. She ducked and waited for Tanjiro to pass her.

She quickly grabbed her blade tightly and swung it forward, cutting his mask in two.

"Oh my god! I'm so sorry!"

"Don't be sorry. Besides, you should focus on what's behind me"

Akihito blinked in shock, and realised that she had cut the boulder in half, but Tanjiro, Sabito or Makomo where anywhere to be seen.

Akihito was sent to Final Selection a week later. Before she headed off, she ran back to Urokodaki.

"Urokodaki - San! I almost forgot!"

Akihito looked excited as she pulled something out from her pocket. It was one of Tanjiro earrings that had fallen off during their training.

She gave it to him, and before running off, yelled back.

"Say thanks to Sabito, Makomo and Tanjiro for me!"

Urokodaki looked shocked. He was about to yell after Akihito, but she was already gone.

"Akihito, how do you..."

"How do you know the names of those dead children?"

He stared down at the earring in his hand and started to cry, remembering Tanjiro's innocent smile as he waved back at him before leaving.

He headed back inside and closed the doors.

It didn't take long for Akihito to arrive at Final Selection. She had left early and was one of the first ones there.

Soon the place was packed with people who were also participating in this life - threatening trial. As soon as Final Selection started, Akihito immediately ran for a covered spot that would not attract any demons.

She stayed up in a tree, watching as people around her were dying, listening to the screams of people as they were getting eaten alive.

Just imagining it was enough to make Akihito shiver. She was terrified, but was certain that she could make it through the seven days without dying.

Half of the week had past, and Akihito awoke from her midday nap to hear a loud bang come from behind her. As she twisted her head around, she saw a man running away from a horribly mutilated demon.

It had arms all over it's body, and was ginormous. Akihito didn't know of any type of demon like that.

She saw that the man was in trouble, but hesitated.

"If he wasn't dumb, then he would have gotten his blade out by now and fought back."

Akihito sighed, and jumped down from the tree, getting ready to face her first demon, face to face.

Back at Urokodaki's house, Urokodaki got an unexpected visitor at his door. Nezuko Kamado.

She had come back to tell him that she had started to talk again and was beginning to master it. Urokodaki was pleased, but decided to tell Nezuko about what happened with Akihito.

Nezuko seemed shocked and looked down at the floor with her hands in fists. She started to cry, saying how much she misses Tanjiro, and how much she wished he had come back.

The two started remembering that dreaded night months ago. The day when Tanjiro was supposed to return from Final Selection.

...

But didn't...
