Vinnie walked to a white car and sighed. He knocked on the window first and smiled when the girl inside open her mouth, she got out of the car and walked towards him.
"Oh my God, hi!" She hugged him. The blond could smell the coconut shampoo scent on her hair and the faint vanilla perfume. She was tiny, he realized as his arms wrapped around her.
"Hey." Was the only thing he could say, his brain blank.
"Who would've thought we didn't even know the other existed a month ago?" She breaks the hug and goes back inside the car. They both get in and Vinnie notices he's nervous as his stomach twirls when she flashes another smile to him. "This is crazy, and my mom always told me not to talk to strangers, ha. Look at us!"
"I know, it's insane. I-I feel like we've known each other for years." He says.
"Same, it's weird how comfortable I am with you." She starts driving, Hera hands him his phone and says: "This is a test, you're on music duty. If you fail I'll literally drop you off on that 7/11 and block you on every social media thing."
"That's a lot of pressure, I don't think it's fair."
"This friendship cannot go on if your music taste is shitty." She says matter-of-factly. "The password is 0, 9, 0, 8."
"Is that your birthday?"
"Yes." Hera looks at him from the corner of her eye. "How do you know? I don't think I ever told you."
"When we first started talking you said you were turning 18 in two weeks, and that was towards the end of August so i kind of... figured it out."
She smiles and mumbles an "oh" under her breath.
"I think I know what I'm going to play."
The intro to Sweater Weather blasted through her speakers, Vinnie saw her eyes go big in excitement as she took a microphone from the armrest. She handed it to him, then grabbed another one for her.
"All I am, is a man. I want the world in my hands. I hate the beach but I stand in California..." They both sang, with the bright pink microphones in their hands. The chorus was sung at the top of their lungs, enjoying the song and laughing at each other's screams.
Vinnie thought it was like they've been friends for years instead of a few weeks.
The song ended, She Looks So Perfect followed and they sang loudly as they made their way to In-N-Out. The drive-through was practically empty, with two cars ahead of them, Hera lowered the volume of the music (Levitating was just ending) and turned to him, one leg up in her seat and the other foot on the car pedals.
"You passed, this friendship is forever now."
"And there's no way to get rid of you?" He asked jokingly.
"Nop." The 'p' popped, making Vinnie focus on her lips for a bit. She had plump pink lips, they looked soft, he thought.
"What can I get for you guys today?" A guy said. When he looked up from the notepad they used to take orders his eyes immediately focused on Hera.
"I want a Combo #2 but can you change the drink for a milkshake, please?" The guy nodded. "Thanks. Vin? What do you want?"
"Same thing."
"What flavor do you want? There's vanilla, strawberry and chocolate." The guy says, not once looking at Vinnie.
"Vanilla."
"Chocolate." She says.
"Dude why?" Vinnie asks confused. "Order the vanilla one. You can't dip your fries in fucking chocolate shake."
"I've never tried it."
"God, you disgust me." Hera rolls her eyes and smiles at the guy.
"That's gonna be it, thank you."
Since there wasn't that many people, they get out of the car and seat in one of the tables, afar from everyone.
"Please try it."
"No it sounds bad, it looks bad." Her nose scrunches at the sight of the perfect golden french fry dipped in white vanilla shake.
"Hera."
Her cheeks turn slightly pink. She had never heard him say her name, and the begging tone in his voice made her blush. Vinnie noticed, but the reason why was unclear to him, so he ignored it.
She opened her mouth and the blond fed her the fry. Analyzing her reaction.
"I hate how bomb this tastes."
"Here." He switched the milkshakes. "Finish mine."
"I though you didn't liked the chocolate one."
"I don't, but you seemed to enjoy it." He pointed at his shake with a sweet smile. "Next time, we're both getting vanilla."
"Thank you, vinyl."
"I hate when you call me that."
"Whatever, vinegar."
"That's it, give me back my shake."
