This job was taking far longer than it should have. Normally the task of exorcising a curse was a much faster process, but for some reason this particular curse was putting up one hell of a fight. Nanami fought on and on against it, knowing damn well that the time was past when he should've been off work. When he took a hefty blow and skidded into a far off corner, he checked his watch and scoffed at the time. It was past six-thirty.
"I fucking hate working overtime." He grumbled.
Taking his tie off he let his displeasure fuel the way he now fought, going back at the curse with the full force of his anger in his movements. He was supposed to be home already and enjoying a dinner date with you, but here he was, dancing around with a stubborn curse instead. He was already late, so it was about time he picked up the pace so he could get home to you. You had been waiting for him for long enough, and it was time to wrap this up.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"It's getting late... The curse he's fighting must be more difficult than anticipated." You mumbled to yourself, pacing around Nanami's living room.
Nanami had given you a spare key to his home earlier today and told you to wait for him to come home. It was an honour considering you had only been officially dating for a little over a month now, so you happily accepted it. He had wanted to have a dinner date with you tonight where he cooked you a lovely meal, but about half an hour ago he texted you that he had an emergency last minute curse to take care of, which put the current time past six thirty with him nowhere in sight. That meant he had gone into overtime, so he would not be a happy camper.
You knew how much he despised working late, so you decided against texting him back so you wouldn't interrupt his work and let him finish without any distractions. Yes you were worried, but throwing him off wasn't something you wanted to do. So, you decided to wedge yourself into the corner of his sectional couch and wait patiently for him, absentmindedly scrolling through your socials on your phone to pass the time.
The time rolled on by with your eyes glued to your phone, soon passing into seven in the evening. You'd be lying if you said you weren't worried about him, occasionally thinking about worst case scenarios where he was injured. You had to force those thoughts down though and continue to wait for him, telling yourself he was fine and there was no way he was hurt. Luckily, around seven fifteen, the lock to his door clicked open and alerted you immediately. He was home, and you no longer needed to worry.
Lifting your vision from your phone you watched him enter his home, eager to see him. Unfortunately, he looked incredibly pissed off from working so late so your expression held firm with concern as he silently pacing into the living room. Not wanting to say anything just yet you watched him throw down his blade and glasses onto a small table, then taking off his jacket and hooking it onto a nearby coat rack with his tie following after it. He then shuffled over to where you sat on the couch and dropped himself down on top of you with a deep sigh, earning a gasp of surprise from you as he locked you in a tight embrace.
"I'm sorry I'm late." He mumbled, face buried in your shoulder.
"Hey, don't be sorry. You had important shit to take care of." You finally spoke, returning his embrace.
"It shouldn't have taken that long though." He carried on, sounding incredibly disappointed in himself.
"You're here now, Kento. Just relax. I know how much you hate working past when you need to, so take it easy." You said softly.
Slowly you began to shift your weight and move him with you until you both lied across the length of the couch properly, twining your legs with his. He was incredibly tense, so you began to gently massage circles on his back with your thumbs and fingertips, rolling over his tight muscles to try and loosen them up. A long sigh of relief passed by his lips as he nuzzled into your neck, allowing his tenseness to fall away with your gentle massage, allowing himself to be vulnerable with you. He relaxed a great deal at your hand, soon completely at ease as your hands moved up to the back of his neck to work out any last areas of tension. Eventually you tapped the back of his neck gently, indicating you wanted him to lift his head up. He understood and lifted his head, pushing himself up a little with his arms.
He let out a quiet hum of curiosity, to which you responded by unbuttoning the first few buttons of his dress shirt to let him breathe, bringing one of your hands up to cup his cheek while the other rested against his chest. By now his expression had completely softened from his previous rigid one, and you enjoyed the look of him at total peace as he stared down at you with love in his eyes.
"You know, I've never had someone to come home to before. Perhaps... You were just what I needed." He spoke warmly, leaning into your hand.
The comment and his soft tone made you blush. "R-really?"
He chuckled, charmed by you. "Really."
Nanami then lowered himself back down, capturing your lips in a deep and sincere kiss. You moved on instinct and slid your arms back around his neck, delighted to have his lips against yours and to be lost in his warmth. His hands did what they could to hold you under your back, coming up to knead your shoulders gently. Both of you were lost in the moment with each other for quite a while before he eventually lifted his lips from yours, a genuine smile playing on his lips as he looked down at your pink tinted face.
"I love you _______. I hope you know that." He hummed.
Hearing those words made your cheeks deepen in shade, absolutely steaming and at a loss for words. You wanted to speak, but your lips only quivered as your eyes sparkled with wonder.
"Ah, I haven't said that to you yet, have I? It seems we're both always so busy. I'm sorry for making you wait." He said softly.
"N-no don't apologize, I'm just... I'm beyond overjoyed! I've never felt so happy to hear you say something. I love you too, Kento. I love you so much that words can't describe how much I do." You finally said all at once, a sweet smile taking over your features.
He chuckled, your joy being so contagious that he too couldn't help but smile. He gave you an unprompted kiss on your nose just because he wanted to show some love to your cute pink tinted skin before he sat up on the couch, pulling you with him so he could rest his forearms on your shoulders.
"So, what are your thoughts on dinner now? Would you still like me to make us something?" He then asked you.
"No. You still need to fully relax. How about we order some takeout instead and save you the stress of having to prepare food?" You suggested.
"Mmm, that may be a good idea. I am a little tired." He agreed with a sigh. "I can cook you breakfast in the morning instead. That is, if you're alright with staying the night."
"Of course. I'd love to." You nodded.
After agreeing on takeout, you and Nanami sat and enjoyed each other's company while you waited for it to be delivered, laughing and cuddling on his couch in a state of pure euphoria. It was almost like he never worked a minute past six, relaxed in your presence with such an intense feeling of ease. Though he came home late, the fact that you were there waiting for him made everything so much better. Having never had someone to help him unwind before meant he finally got to feel content despite enduring a full day of work. You were truly all he needed, and he loved you dearly for all you were to him.
