𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝟏𝟒𝟎𝟐

A week had nearly passed since the brutish argument between brothers. The castle had grown quiet, and still. The only movement that occurred were the routine meetings between Niklaus and Josefina.

Some days they had sat in silence, merely enjoying one another's company. Other days, they had shared a few intimate conversations mixed with rather simple ones.

Today, however, Niklaus did not show up. Josefina sat alone in the spot she had grown to adore. Beneath the prominent oak tree in a once lively meadow. The summer heat had scorched the tall grass and it now lay dead, awaiting spring to bring it to life once more.

Her heart ached knowing he did not show. I suppose it didn't matter too much, she thought.

Though it did matter.

The hubristic sound of loud laughter echoed across the barren field interrupting her thoughts. To her unfortunate surprise, there stood Niklaus, one arm over the shoulder of Kol.

Both stained with blood, some of the crimson still dripping from their faces.

"That was fantastic!" Niklaus billowed. "Just what I needed to escape the suffocation of this castle!"

Josefina felt a pang in her chest — suffocation?

Elijah strode out to the courtyard, shaking his head angrily at the two.

"What have you done? You risk the attention that could bring forth our father!" He shouted pointing at both Niklaus and Kol.

Josefina swiftly stood and made her towards the castle in attempt to listen further into the argument. Perhaps she could intervene and prevent an occurrence similar to their previous confrontation.

"Perhaps it's time to move on, brother! Away from this place and onto the next!" Kol shrugged his arms and glanced at Josefina as she slowly crept in.

"We're safe here, Kol. We have maintained our cover despite all else. And here you two go, tearing apart the very town we are residing in!" Elijah paced the room angrily and glared at his brothers.

"Consider this me compromising our safety." Kol plopped down into a chair and waved his hand for a servant to help him. He smirked slightly at Josefina as she came to a stop just out of view from the other two brothers.

"I too, am sick of this town." Niklaus added in arrogantly, utterly unaware of her presence.

He slid his thumb across his chin wiping away the leftover blood and licked it off. "And I do not see any progress on tracking down the doppelgänger here!"

Josefina's firm stance wavered a bit as the mention of the doppelgänger. Kol appeared to be the only one who noticed that she was even there, while the other two were having an intense Mikaelson stare down, or as Josefina called it, the alpha male pissing contest.
