Y/n's POV
It was a beautiful day below the surface in my garden. I was doing my normal chores, like making sure that everything was growing properly and collecting the crops whenever they're ready and planting the new crops.
Just to give you a little info about me, I'm a sea monster. I have (1/f/c) scales all over my body and (h/l) (2/f/c) hair. I wear a normal shirt and shorts that's made out of seaweed. I live with my Aunt Daniela and Uncle Lorenzo, along with my cousin, Luca, and Grandma ever since my parents died. But I still look after their garden. That's where I'm at right now.
As I was making sure everything was in order, I see something shiny in the corner of my eye. I got curious and swam over to the tall grass that was beside my garden.
I bend down and pick it up. It was one of the human's lost and found things that ends up left behind. It looked like... to be honest I didn't know what it was. But I could see my reflection through it. Maybe that's what it's used for.
"Whoa," I said to myself. It reminds me of how stuff is like up in the surface.
And if you're wondering, yes, I have been to the surface. But I haven't gone to the human town before. I was told to never go up to the surface, so I think going to the town would be worse. So I stay at a far distance.
But after a few seconds of thinking, I remembered that I have to get back to my aunt's house. Like... Now!
I let out a gasp and quickly swim into the little cave that is next to my garden and put the item I found next to the other things that I found here in my garden. And with that, I quickly swim back to the house.
Timeskip
I finally make it back to my aunt's house, and as I do so, I see my cousin, Luca, herding the fish back in their little barn.
After he was done with that, we both head to the entrance of the house and I see Aunt Daniela already waiting for us with her hands on her hips.
Oh, no. Are we in trouble?
"You both are two minutes late," Aunt Daniela tells me and Luca as we swim towards her. "Was there a boat? Huh?"
"Uh, no," I say. I don't remember seeing any boat when I was in my garden.
"Uh..." Luca started to say, trying to look for his words.
"Did you hide?" Aunt Daniela then asked, mostly to Luca.
"Yes, Mom," Luca answered.
"Because if they catch even a glimpse of you, you think they come around to meet new friends, huh?" Aunt Daniela then goes on.
"No," Luca answers.
"Make small talk," Aunt Daniela then says.
"Of course not. Why would..." I started saying.
"No. They're here to do murders. So, I'm just making sure you know," Aunt Daniela tells us.
"Thanks, Mom," Luca tells her.
"Yeah. Thanks, Aunt Daniela," I then tell her.
"When I was a kid, we'd go weeks without seeing a boat, and let me tell you, they did not have motors. Just a sweaty land monster with a paddle," Aunt Daniela then says as she leads both Luca and I inside the house.
We swim inside and we pass by our grandma, who is setting up the table with our lunch.
"Hi, Grandma," Luca and I say as we kiss her cheek.
"Hey, Bubbles," She greets us.
Luca and I then swim over to my Uncle Lorenzo, aka Luca's dad, to greet him.
"Hi, Dad," Luca tells him.
"Hi, Uncle Lorenzo," I greet him.
"Luca! Y/n! Look at Pinchy-pessa. She's molting," Uncle Lorenzo tells us as he shows us his pet crab. "Oh, it's magnificent. Now here's a champion show crab if I ever saw one."
"Wow. That's cool," I say as I swim closer to get a better look at the crab. I then notice that she brings her claw out towards me, but Uncle Lorenzo stops her from doing what she was about to do.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Don't look her in the eye!" Uncle Lorenzo tells me.
"Oh, right! Sorry," I then say.
"But don't apologize. She can sense weakness," Uncle Lorenzo then tells me.
But just as the crab was about to snap at my gills, I quickly dodge. I then use my finger and push it to the side a bit.
"Come eat, Luca and Y/n. Come on. We better beat those Branzinos at the crab show this year," Aunt Daniela says as Luca and I swim over to the table. "Everyone thinks Bianca Branzino's so great with her prize-winning crabs and amazing dolphin impression. Please! Anyone can do that," She then goes on as she then does her best dolphin impression.
Uh, I don't think that's how a dolphin sounds like.
"Right?" Aunt Daniela then asks.
"I don't know why dolphins even sound like that. You know, why don't they just talk?" Uncle Lorenzo states.
I look over at Luca as I start eating my food and notice that he looked as if he was in deep thought. I don't know about what, do I just stay out of it, until Grandma speaks.
"Luca," She says.
"Huh?" Luca questions, snapping out of his thoughts.
"What's on you mind?" She then asks him.
"Uh... Uh... Well, I was just wondering... Where do boats come from?" Luca asks.
I almost spit out my food, but I was glad I held it in, but Uncle Lorenzo spits out his food and starts coughing.
"The land monster town. Just above the surface. I beat a guy at cards there once," Grandma tells Luca.
Now this time, I spit out my food after what I just heard.
"What?" I question.
"Mom! What are you doing?" Aunt Daniela asks Grandma.
"They're old enough to hear about it," Grandma tells Aunt Daniela. Now I was really interested.
"You've been to the surface and done the change?" Luca asks.
"And you've never been caught?" I then ask.
"No! No! The end! Shut it down!" Aunt Daniela tells us.
"We were just curious," I stated as I rested my chin on my hand.
"Yeah? Well, the curious fish gets caught. We do not talk, think, discuss, contemplate, or go anywhere near the surface! Got it?" Aunt Daniela tells us.
"Yes, Mom" Luca tells her.
"Yes, Aunt Daniela," I then say while looking down, not really liking that rule.
They say that my parents died because of humans, but I believe that there is still some good in them. Maybe just a little.
"Here, now lets get back to work," Aunt Daniela tells us as she give me and Luca some food to take with us as we then swim out of the house.
Luca goes and gathers the fish while I was about to go off to my garden. We were about to leave until I hear Aunt Daniela's voice.
"Hey." She says.
Luca and I look at her. We both look at each other, and then swim back to her.
"Look me in the eye. You know I love you two, right?" Aunt Daniela asks us as she rests her hand on our cheek.
"I know, Mom," Luca tells her.
"Me too. I love you," I then tell her.
Luca and I then swim off to get back to our work.
Aunt Daniela might think that I'm going off to go do some garden chores, but she's dead wrong. I've got some other plans in mind.
