When you noticed me

(MELISSA'S POV)
I searched around for a girl, a beautiful girl with long hair and a, well, not-so-flattering prom dress. Her name was y/n, and I had totally lost her. I searched the hallways for her, but I doubted that she actually would want to see me. You see, Y/n and I never truly got along. We were always fighting over these boys, she was kind of a pick-me girl and I was more like one of the boys.

"Y/n?" I called out. I heard a whimper from the janitors closet.
"Y/n, is that you?" I asked as I opened the door to the janitors closet.

There she was, crying in that unflattering purple dress of hers. Her hair was in her face as she cried into her hands. When she realized I was there she immediately stopped crying, and stood up in front of me.

"What do you want, Melissa?" She asked angrily.

"I'm just checking in- I bet it's stressful with the boys fighting and all."

I heard footsteps behind me and I glanced back, and there was Leo walking down the hall. He glanced at me, and gave me a small nod. I nodded back at him, and he continued on his way.

"I'm fine." Y/n said.

"Really?" I asked.

"No." She answered.

I pulled her into a hug.

"It'll be alright, boys fight. It's a normal thing." I reassured her.

I thought about Leo, who I'd seen with blood running down his face. Where was he going to go, home? Anything but that.

"Are you sure?" Y/n asked. I nodded as she pulled away from me.

"Why're you being so nice to me now?" Y/n asked.

"Well, y/n, I dunno." I said vaguely.

"You don't know?" She asked.

"I don't want to hate you or anything. I want to at least get along." I said to her.

"Yeah, me too." She smiled. I smiled back at her.

"You wanna get out of here?" I asked her, holding out my hand for her to take.

"Yeah." She said hesitantly, smiling and taking my hand. I quickly pulled her out of the closet and we ran together across the school and onto the streets. She laughed and cheered as we ran together, obviously having fun as she ran with me down the streets and sidewalks.

"Melissa!" She yelled. I stopped with her, and she spun into my arms.

"Yes?" I asked.

"I think I like you." She said.

"I think I like you, too." I said, smiling.

"No, I think I really like you." She repeated. I went silent.

"Me, too." I said after a minute. She looked up at me, before warming my lips with her own. I didn't expect it, but I didn't deny it. I enjoyed it, I enjoyed being with her. I knew just then, my and Y/n would be together forever.

For a while.
