Wings Of Fire Brothers Tragedy

~chapter one~

Subzero was splashing around in the waves while his brother watched quietly from behind Occasionally having to tell him off for swimming to far from shore.They were still a dragonet and not allowed to go very far out of serpentines sight. since he was in charge of watching the small one. A guard wondered up to serpentine to say a few things, him noticing immediately serpentine quickly signaled in aquatic for subzero to get out of the water before he could speak.

"The queen has requested your presence Mr.Serpentine sir.."

He sighed and rolled his eyes picking up subzero and flashed 'could I take my little brother with me' the guard responded with a simple "no the queen wants you alone." Serpentine put down his brother and opened his snout to say something.. "I will be there in a flash of a Tail.. as for you subzero you best be getting home to mother for now." subzero nodded as if he was atcaully listening and set on his way home.

"You know you could live in the Palace and you wouldn't have to deal with all that.."

The guard spoke up. "I know but I kinda like living with my little brother its nice..." he responded with a smirk the guard just shrugged and now they were on their way to the Queens Palace. "By the way not trying to be rude or anything but I never got your name don't want to be just calling you guard all the time since you almost always come to get me when the queen needs to talk" Serpentine asked his tail slithering in the air  slowly like some kind of magical snake. "Oh not at all its not rude atcaully thanks for being kind enough to ask not many do... I'm puffin!" The guard almost seemed happy to tell the very tall serpent like dragon following him his name or relieved even that he was kind enough to ask. "Well its quite nice to finally know your name puffin I basically see you on a daily basis now" he grinned that childish joy still inside the scary , stern , slick body of his, excited as he thought of it as making a new friend since they could now be on a name basis.

Soon the two had made it into the Palace serpentine bowing infront of the queen and puffin sitting proudly by him  like he was a mudwing showing off his first prize cow if that even was a contest those muddwellers had. Serpentine snickered a bit at puffin then sat up sturdily as queen jade signaled him to.

Jade glared at puffin him stiffening up immediately and as soon as he did so her gaze traveled to serpentine who sat cleanly his long tail curled up at his side and she nodded. "Serpentine do you know why I called you here..?" He shook his head vigorously.

"As you know the icewings are not very happy about your mother aurora as an icewing being here even after her mate hippocampus had died.... rather tragically..." The queen droned on about the two for a little serpentine feeling a little uncomfortable talking about his dead father.. "From what I've heard the icewings are planning an attack I want you to use your...Special ability to get all the info on where their attacking from and what time it will be how many icewings will be there and all of that stuff.." she finished speaking and serpentine worried a bit on his own part since it would take a peice of his soul to do that.. "alright your magesty.." Serpentine made his way home puffin following beside him for eh protection or something..

"Hey I ain't got nothing else to do today mind if I hand out at your place uh.. serpentine..?"

Puffin asked kindly."that would be fine by me don't know about my mother though.." he nodded in response getting a quick sentence in before the door swung open, a big icewing and a small dragonet lunged at serpentine with a suprise hug. He sighed and turned to puffin "do they always do that?" The guard asked nervously. "Well yes I suppose when I come home alone they do it not when uh subzero is with me.. but surprised they did it when your here." He tilted his head a bit. Aurora looked at the guard next to him "honey did you get in trouble again..?" She asked out of concern.

"No mom atcaully this is my new friend.. puffin meet aurora she's my mother.."

Puffin waved kindly and aurora quickly began to speak "Oh your friends with my dear oldest boy serpentine! How delightful he's never had that many friends come on in.. take your armor off get comfortable I'll get you some tea I had already started.." Puffin walked in with serpentine dragging behind closing the door almost on his long snakey tail but not quite. The two boys sat at the table while subzero sat drawing things.. aurora placed a cup of tea infront of puffin. "Your job must be very tiring.. So I hope you enjoy this it should help calm you down and replenish your energy.." Puffin took a sip of it seeming to enjoy the tea "thanks Mrs.Aurora.." she nodded a your welcome and headed back into the kitchen.

"Hey subzero would you please get me a scroll..?"

The dragonet nodded and wondered off coming back with an empty scroll smiling. "I wannu be jus like big brotha"  subzero babbled as he dropped it infront of serpentine. "Wow he is fast for a little guy.." Puffin spoke out of amusement. He nodded and got to work. "I enchant this scroll to take the feather out of this inkwell and write down specifically the area of attack of the icewings ,the time ,how many troops they will be bringing ,and any other valuable information." A feather with ink on the tip floated towards the scroll and it began to write a detailed report on the icewings slowly on the scroll. "Woah.. animus magic is cool." Puffin covered his muzzle quickly as if he'd made a mistake by saying that.

"Oh your fine you can say the name of the special ablity around me your a  friend so it dosent make me as discomforted as the queen or others speaking of it.." Serpentine pat puffins  shoulder smiling. His friend sighed of relief.

Serpentines smile soon turned to a frown he was in anguish, starting to really worry about what would happen if he used his magic too much.. but looked towards his nervous friend and a smirk spread across his face. "Your scales uh.. look lovely..." he had definitely broke the silence. The scales around puffins face heated up a bit and he shook off his feeling. "I uh really..?" He asked in response. Serpentine nodded akwardly. "T-thanks your uh scales look nice as well their an great color.." Puffin spoke really nervous that time and the other chuckled a bit.. he began to sip his tea again...

puffin didn't really have anywhere to go home to he usally was always in the Palace or just sleeping in a field of coral.. "Hey you wanna stay the night..?" Serpentine asked quietly. "R-really? Of course!" His tail swayed side to side joyfully. "We don't really have a guest room or anything so wanna share..?.. I have a bunk bed in my room since me and subzero used to share though he has a room of his own now.." Serpentine spoke and puffin just nodded. As the report continued to write itself the two head to sleep as the rest of the house was quiet.

Aurora checked in on the two and giggled a bit childishly but covered her mouth as not to wake them. She then checked on subzero who was sleeping quietly and she head off to her room which was the coldest in the house to make her feel more at home.. to think she used to share this with... him.. she sighed not wanting to think about her late husband hippocampus and head off to sleep.
