Chapter 20
----------------------------------------------------------
Sometimes things need to be let go of. If it's meant to be, you'll find each other again.
---------------------------------------------------------
A lady in a black dress with red lipstick walked through the white sands of Pha Ngan, her sweat traveling down her porcelain skin and a bubble of irritation crept up her veins as she spotted the restaurant. To say that she did not like it is an understatement. One look from the homey restaurant irked her and she decided that she hated it.
Baifern signaled her guards wearing full American-made suits, to knock. Only the sound of the waves and the rustling wind greeted her. The sun was striking hard, and it was supposed to be rush hour, but there were no customers.
"Good morning Ma'am. Do you need anything from that store?" A man in his late 40s said while holding 2 grocery bags.
"Where are the owners of this restaurant?" Baifern said with a fake smile plastered on her pretty face.
"I am the owner of the store Ma'am. Today is our grocery day, that's why we are closed." Gulf's father muttered in a friendly tone, but still felt an eerie feeling while looking at Baifern's eyes.
"Oh, good. I actually came here not to eat, but to talk to you. I won't dilly-dally and I will get straight to the point. You're going to close your store and move out of Thailand. For good."
Gulf's father didn't know if he wanted to laugh at the crazy woman in front of her or throw his newly bought knife at the woman's pretty face. "Are you okay Ma'am? You must be hallucinating because of the heat. Why would we close our restaurant? As far as I remember, we have no debts."
"You will close your store because I said so."
"What are you? A five-year-old brat? I don't even follow my wife sometimes, what makes you think I'll follow you?" Gulf's father is very much confused as to what the lady in front of him is saying. He understood Calculus better than this woman, and he thought 'Damn, women are really hard to understand sometimes."
"You think this is funny huh? It is not because you have no choice but to follow me." Baifern handed him a phone showing a live video of Gulf in his University. "Your son is quite handsome and smart. It would be a waste to just let him rot 6 feet under right?"
He didn't want to believe what the woman was saying, but looking at the phone and the bodyguards, he felt chills running down his spine. He was fine if it would endanger him, but Gulf. For hell's sake, he could not afford losing his only son.
"Why? We are not that big of an enterprise, no debt to you, and I don't even know you. Who are you even?"
"Are you sure you don't recognize me? I'm sure you've already met three of my sons." And then everything clicked for him, but there was a question lingering in his mind.
"What's the problem with having a gay son?" He loved his son too much that this mere "gay" does not affect him. He loves his son, no matter the gender or sexual orientation because love knows no bounds and does not have a requirement or condition.
"Why are you even asking that? He's your only son and you're allowing him to marry a man? Who will continue your families' legacy? No one! They won't be able to conceive, marry, and society will just belittle them. They wouldn't have freedom! I know you all see me as the villain but my son's interest is my priority and I will do whatever it takes to give them a great future."
"What future is great if they couldn't be with the one they love? What freedom when they can't be themselves? Is legacy more important than your son's feelings? Is money really worth it more than your son's peace of mind? If your parents controlled you before, then you must know what your son feels. Making them feel shitty for loving the same gender isn't love, and you sound like a self-centered brat who sees their children as an investment rather than as a person."
Baifern bit her tongue from the message of Gulf's father. She knows that he made sense, but he can't afford for his son to make the same mistakes as she did and there is an issue of money. She hated this weakened version of herself, a soft and emotional version of her that she killed years ago before she became the numb, emotionless, self-centered Baifern.
"Well... I don't care. I want your son out of Mew's life, or I will make sure he'll never see the sunlight again. And you won't even worry about moving, I'll arrange everything. Finances, his university, identity, and even provide you with a new restaurant." From the money I will get from marrying Mew to a woman. "I am not asking for your permission, Mr. Kanawut. You will leave this country in three days. Have a safe flight." She handed plane tickets and cheques to him and left the dumbfounded father.
"5,000,000 US dollars. That's what she thinks his son's freedom is worth, huh. I hope you forgive me, Gulf." He quickly reached for his phone and dialed his son.
"Gulf, pack all of your things and go to Bangkok tomorrow. Me and your Mae will meet you there at noon. I will explain everything tomorrow, okay? I love you son."
He hung up and went to find his wife and tell her the unfortunate news.
