| The Signature 'Evil Grandma' Story. Then I Get A Quest |
BECCA GROANED as her feet hit the ground with a heavy, 'thump.' The world was swirling and she was very dizzy - so dizzy that she couldn't stand without her knees shaking.
When she recovered, Father was gone. But where Father was standing minutes ago, stood a tall, pretty lady, her back facing Becca.
Her skin was pale, contrasting with her dark, black hair. Her eyes changed colors with every single second that passed. Her dress was white, but Becca knew that it used to be colorful; now it isn't, because of Father's gloomy palace.
"Step-mommy!" Becca called, trying to get her step mom's attention attention.
Proserpina whirled around and hugged Becca tightly. "Your father told me you would be coming." Typical of Father to give a warning early. "He said that he would be staying with that annoying mortal -"
Becca frowned, and Proserpina immediately corrected herself.
"- Your mother," She says, sounding a bit annoyed. Becca beamed at her step-mom. "So, guess what?"
"Uh, how am I supposed to know?" Becca whined. "I'm not Apollo's daughter!"
Step-mommy laughed. "Your favorite chocolate croissants!"
Oh...how could Becca forget? She was just thinking about them a second ago. Becca grinned at step-mommy, saying, "You're the best!"
THAT NIGHT, Step-Mom ate dinner with Becca. And for a goddess of spring, Proserpina ate meat way too much.
Suddenly, a sandy-haired man appeared. Most likely a god, with blue eyes that screamed: prank alerts! Be careful!
He turned to Proserpina and panted, "Your mother - angry - apparently, she doesn't like Pluto spawn - very angry," before disappearing,
The steak that Proserpina was munching on dropped out of her mouth - not very ladylike - and she turned pale. "Go to your room, Rebecca," she whispered.
Thoughts flew through Becca's mind. Why did she have to go? But she obeyed and started toward the room.
There was a loud crack in the air, and Becca heard Step-Mom call, "Mother!"
Mother - Proserpina's mother...Ceres?
Becca peeked through the keyhole and saw an old grandma wrinkle her nose. "Darling, you're eating much too many red meat - eat some grain and cereal!" She sighed exasperatedly. "And why in Tartarus did you agree to taking care of that Pluto spawn?"
Step-Mom sighed as well and says, "Mother! Pluto asked me to!"
"Your mother knows best. And see, that's we call an unfaithful -"
Proserpina interrupted her 'mother,' "Then what do you call Zeus?" She then frowned, bringing her hand to her head, as if she had a terrible headache.
Zeus? Who was Zeus? Then Becca remembered and scrunch up my nose. The Greek version of Jupiter. Apparently, Jupiter got degraded not by just a little.
"Let's just forget about this. We all want a hero in this world, don't we? You know that small house at the edge of the deepest pit of the Underworld? That's where Pluto lived before he decided to build this castle," Ceres said, gesturing to the walls around her. "He left a bit of his gems on accident. Give Rebecca a quest to find all of them."
Proserpina pondered this. "How long do I have to train her?"
Ceres thought for a moment. "One year," she said firmly.
Proserpina nodded. "Alright, mother."
A crack resounded through the room, before Proserpina sighed. Becca heard footsteps getting nearer and she quickly dove away from the door, to act as though she was never eavesdropping.
"You can come out now," Proserpina's gentle voice floated into the room.
Becca pushed open the door and blurted out, "Why does Grandmother hate Father?" Becca quickly clamped her hand over her mouth, but it was already too late. She wished she could grab back the words. Unfortunately, Step-Mom had already heard.
"You were eavesdropping, weren't you?" Step-mom shook her head. "You know the story about Cinderella, right? The princess, with the magic high heels, and having to leave at midnight?"
Becca nodded.
"The high heel represents the love. When the high heel doesn't fit, it means that the person isn't right for you. It causes lots of pain, either from the high heel or heart-break. And the midnight signifies that you have to know when to let go. When enough is enough."
"Okay?" Becca said. What Proserpina said made sense, she supposed.
"Enough with that love advice. I'm not Aphrodite," Proserpina grumbled. "Now let's get started with your training."
Again, filler chapter.
I had to edit this because I definitely messed up on the old version, smh. I made Proserpina sound like a lazy goddess, even though she's not. At least, she's probably not in her Roman form. Hopefully, it's better now...I also forgot to copy and paste a part of the story into Wattpad, from Google Docs - not to mention that if we went with the old version, the book would've already ended *face-palms*
