•••••••••••••FOOTSTEPS
echoed throughout the hallways as the females feet tapped against the porcelain-colored floor. her slightly tattered and worn dress flowed around her ankles with each step she took, it's fabric soft against her smooth skin.her day had been spent of climbing trees, running through fields, doing anything to get her mind off the impending doom that would follow her the next week. it was coronation, her father had passed and her mother would most likely be following in his grim trail sadly sooner than later due to the infectious virus. the council who guided each royal through their stressful life voted on her upcoming rise.
y/n had no say, she didn't have a choice. she would rather her older brother take over, but he had run away years ago after a personal incident. she was stuck, whatever happened next is what she would have to accept.
so when the next day occurred, maids came flocking into her room with panicked looks, she was notified her coronation would be that following afternoon. a neighboring kingdom had been taking over close castles, her own was predicted to be next. in order to protect her subjects, she needed to be crowned and put in command immediately.
the dress wasn't exactly as fancy as her mother's when she had been made a queen, but it was last minute; y/n never liked jeweled or luscious outfits anyways.
the creamy white top hung off her shoulders and fit nicely till below her waist where the skirt then flowed out. the sleeves were solid with her upper arms before it was ombréd into a laced flower pattern to her wrists. her shoes matched the gown, and to top it off they had no heels; she loved the fact that she wouldn't have to worry about stumbling.
y/n prepared herself as she poked at her hair, her locks were pulled into a braided bun with some strands fallen around her face in the front. she stood before the large, dark oak doors. it would be mere minutes before they swung open and she was revealed in all her pre-glory to the citizens and some distant family who showed.
the cool breeze that came from the entry's opening made her close her eyes for a moment. it was almost an out of bodily experience as she felt as if she watched herself stride down the silky carpet. all watchful orbs were on her, she hated it.
it was only until she held her kingdoms jewelry box that had been passed on for generations and generations through each queen, that it hit her; she was doing this. the archbishop's words were blurred through her ears until it was time to repeat her promised vow, every word was memorized.
"i, y/n l/n, promise to protect, rise up, and make better of (kingdoms name) for as long as i reign. with gratitude, i accept the crown that has been passed on for decades before me," with the final sentence she felt the silver object placed on her bowed head. she placed the jewelry box back onto the clothed table and turning around,
there was no turning back now.
