"So class, I will assign your partners for today's class and if all goes well with everyone, they might be your partner for the rest of the year." Snape droned on. He called many names, I was anxious to see who I'd work with because I have gotten some really bad partners in the past. "Hermione Granger and Pansy Parkinson, Y/n Y/l/n and Draco Malfoy, Ronald Weasley and Blaise Zabini. That's everyone go over to your partner and start working. I'll be around to check on you shortly." Everyone found their way to the partners. Draco walked over to me and sat in the empty stool beside me. "Hello Draco." I tried to sound polite because even though the other Gryffindoor's disposed Malfoy, I didn't hate him. Some of the things he did agitated me, but I got over them because they weren't necessarily aimed towards me. "Hi Y/n. I guess we're partners so let's get started." I nodded and picked up the card with the ingredients for the potion. "We are maki a swelling potion. We need puffer-fish eyes, dried nettles, and bat spleens. Go get the ingredients and I'll start setting the cauldron up." He glared at me. "Don't tell me what to do, you go get the ingredients." I rolled my eyes and started to set the cauldron up. Draco got up aggressively and started walking to the ingredient shelves. I felt good knowing I could annoy him if I wanted to. He came back and put the ingredients on the table beside the cauldron. "Okay Draco, read my the instructions." He reads the instructions and do as he says. A few minutes later, Snape come over to examine our work. We finished far before anyone else did. "You used the puffer-fish eyes I presume?" I nodded and Draco said "Yes, professor." Snape nodded and said we did well. He walked away to go and ruin someone else's day while Draco and I sat triumphantly at our table with our potion.
The class was almost done and we were bored out of our minds while other still finished their potions. Draco had his hands on the table and was fidgeting with his fingers and rings. I examined them while he twisted the rings and slid them on and off his fingers. "I like your rings." I said pointing at them. He stopped and look at his rings and then at me. "Thanks Y/n." I nodded and smiled. Snape dismissed call at that moment so I couldn't say anything more so I headed off back up to the main floor to get to the Gryffindoor common room. I studied for a bit and then finished up my day.
The next day at breakfast, we saw one singular owl fly into the Great Hall carrying an envelope. I was sitting with Harry, Ron, and Hermione eating when the owl flew in front of me and dropped the envelope on my plate. "It's a bit early for mail, isn't it?" Hermione questioned. "You're right, I don't know." I picked it up and examined it. "C'mon now, open it." Ron said hastily. "Okay, I'm opening it!" I flipped it over and opened the top which was sealed with wax. I took out a note which read as follows:
This is for you. It's too big for your fingers so I put them on a chain. I hope you like it.
Then you looked back inside the envelope and saw a chain with a silver ring on it. You examined it and were confused for a minute but then understood. "Who's it from?" Harry asked. "I don't know, it didn't say." I lied about the first part. I knew exactly who it was from. We finished up breakfast and went through our day of classes.
