It was night. It may seem like most stories end up starting out as night but tonight was different. It was pitch black. No stars were in the sky, not even the moon was out.

Raphael was out on a run, by himself, his younger brothers were home in bed. He made sure even Splinter was in bed before leaving the lair. You see, Raph was the oldest, the leader, the shield. He needed to relieve the stress of being the leader by running.

Tonight started out like any other night. The streets were full in the city that never sleeps as normal. People in cars were honking, driving, yelling. People on the streets were bumping, running, yelling.

Raph decided to take a different route tonight. He was running across the rooftops with trained accuracy and speed. He was quick, silent, almost invisible. Raphael ran until his legs started to burn.

Then, there was the hissing of a cat. It started out soft but grew louder as Raph approached the noise. It turned into growls when the brute turtle was about five feet from the shadow of a large cat like figure.

Raphael knew enough about cats to know that he needed to kneel and hold his hand out to seem less threatening. He did just that and the growling toned down some. The figure slowly started to stalk out of the shadows.

The figure was green. Raphael was amazed. The head was shaped like his own but instead of flat at the top, cat ears poked out. The ears where flat against the new comers head. The cat turtle slowly came out further to show that it was standing on its hands and feet. The eyes of the animal were a sharp sapphire blue with a lighter colored blue around the eye lids. The design on the creatures face was intriguing to Raphael.

"Come on lil fella" The red banded turtle said in a soothing, soft voice as he tried to coax the beautiful creature out of the shadows. The creature came into full view to show that it had a shell and plastron, just like his own, but the tail was long and swishing, just like a cat's. Raphael watched as the creature brought its face closer to his hand to sniff it before it laid down on the ground and nuzzled Raph's hand.

Raphael smiled at the creature and he hesitantly and slowly pet the cat turtle on the head as it let out a churr of contentment.

"Do ya wanna come home with me? I could get ya some food and water" Raph said soothingly. The creature looked up at the turtle with curious eyes before it stood on its hands and feet and leaned forward. It stuck its tongue out and licked the side of Raphael's face. He let out a chuckle and a small blushed formed on his cheeks.

"'M gonna guess that's a yes" he said as he pet the creature's head. He stood up to start heading for the edge of the roof before he looked back to see the beautiful creature following him. Raph jumped down from the roof and opened a manhole cover at the bottom. He slipped inside and moved out of the way to see the cat turtle jump down. It shrieked and jumped onto Raphael's shell so it wouldn't touch the water. Raph laughed.

Raphael headed down the sewer tunnels and came to the entrance to his home. He opened the door to see his father standing there. The anger on the old rat's face was almost terrifying.
