it felt like we were walking in a maze, for the streets of the night market evidently never ended.

"so..." she said, breaking the silence between us, "what do you do for a living?"

raising an eyebrow, i replied, "are you trying to hit on me?"

"maybe i am, baby. no, but seriously, you know that i'm on the run from the cops. who knows when they'll get me? might as well get to know each other a bit better until then." right... sooner or later, she'll be taken by the police and spend god knows how long within the confined space of four walls.

"take a wild guess then."

"judging by," she started scrutinising every single inch of me, "whatever's going on here, you're either homeless or very homeless."

i shot a dirty look at her, "oh really, i guess you're never getting your answer then."

"why are you being so difficult baby, just tell me." she said in a surprisingly disturbing high-pitched voice with a pout on her face. who's the baby now? after listening to her whine and playfully hit my arm, i reluctantly gave in just to make her stop.

"alright. i'm a medical student who owes people a shit ton of money. what about you? why're you out here dealing drugs like it's nothing?"

"me?" using her index finger, she pointed to herself and let out a small chuckle, "no one has asked me that question before..." she tucked both her hands into the pockets of her hoodie and looked up at the blank night sky.

"let's just say that living my life like this is way more interesting, thrilling, you could even say exhilarating compared to my life before. and whatever i'm doing right now, it pays really well."

"heck, i might consider quitting school and become a stripper instead. they pay well too don't they?"

she cupped my face with her warm hands and looked me dead straight in the eyes, "that sounds like a good plan, but it only works if i'm the only person you're stripping for."

and something happened to my body that even i, as someone who studies medicine religiously, couldn't explain. my heart started thumping, beating faster after each beat. it gave me butterflies in my stomach, which in more scientific terms refers to the rush of dopamine that the brain releases when a person is enticed or attracted to the other. that's the problem. how could i be attracted to her? i am a girl, and she is a girl too...

she broke my train of thoughts as she continued, "although today might just be your lucky day, i'm gonna help you get some cash."

"how? i'm not robbing a bank with you."

"think of a place that involves luck or some might say skill, and of course, tons and tons of money."

"a casino?"

"that's right, baby. mark my words, we're getting rich tonight."
