the night market was packed with people between the multitude of stalls that lined both sides of the street. i was mesmerised by the bright led lights that hung from each stall; the smell of savoury food that wafted through the air; the liveliness of the place itself. seeing that i was not going to make any progress on my own, she pulled me by the hand dragged me through the thick, suffocating crowd like a mother dragging her stubborn child.
when we finally reached a clearing, she looked me up and down with a disgust, earning a confused look from me.
"yeah, this isn't going to work. you need new clothes." she then beckoned me towards the racks and racks of clothing in the nearest shop and urged me to choose something. ultimately, i did not have much say as she continuously rejected my numerous choices and chose something which she deemed as 'much more badass than you'll ever be'. picky and judgemental much. i realised that i did not have any money on me. i had left everything in the car which was stupid of me, but then again, here i am going shopping with a girl i met barely an hour ago.
"you couldn't have that much anyways. your car is so run down it should be in the grave next to my ancestors or something," touché. "now wait here, i've got this covered baby girl."
she walked up to the cashier and placed the rather expensive clothes on the counter. i expected her to take out her wallet and some cash, but instead she said, "hey, i would like to return these items." what was she up to now...
"do you have the receipt? we can't do refunds without one." she seemingly started arguing with the poor lady that was probably working overtime, but there was that glint in her eyes that told me something. it was all an act.
"then can i at least get a new bag for these." and with a bag filled with clothing we did not pay for, we walked out the store as she smirked, "people are so gullible these days."
i didn't notice that my hand was interlaced with hers until someone shouted, "you guys are a cute couple, last long!" she barely flinched at the comment but instead held my hand even tighter. meanwhile, i was busy trying to hide my flustered face that started turning a shade of pink. seeing that i suddenly took an interest in the rough concrete ground, she put her arm around my shoulder and teased, "awww, is my baby shy?"
if i had to be honest with myself, i liked the teasing.
