The day was young and prudent Elliott Simons was marching begrudgingly to his father's apartment. His father Edward was such a quiet, kind, and understanding person. He never raised his soothing voice and always talked in a calm tone. He was just a delight to be around. Though now that he was 65, he needed some kindness shown back to him. Elli, who went by his middle name: Ehrin, knew this, but was just to stubborn to truly let himself thoroughly enjoy time with his sweet dad. They were poor early on, and bustling Ed barely ever had time to care for and money to pay for the upbringing of his innocent son.

Ehrin always remembered that. He missed his dad for 17 painful and confusing years. He knew it wasn't Ed's fault. He wanted to love him. But the introverted neglect he felt could not be made up by the reembercing time they had now, and Ehrin always spitefully took out his distaste for his neglect by being rude to or ignoring his father. The tattered dad and son had overwhelming love for each other. Ehrin just locked it away. Pitifully.

Ehrin arrived at the quaint apartment at 1 O'clock PM. He quickly travered the steps, swiftly knocking on the old wooden door with the little number 1 on it. He didn't wait for an answer, often never did, and promptly let himself in. Edward was nowhere in sight. The artificial blonde huffed with annoyance, walking with vigor to the unexplored rooms. He found Ed napping peacefully on his bed and quilted comforter. He was asleep, interesting and benevolent in his old dad-ness. Ehrin was thinking of leaving right there, but he had come for a secretly meaningful reason. Deep down he knew he had to care for his dad. His powerful drive of appreciation outdid any of his selfish, sassy, rude, asshole attributes. And there were a surprising lot.

Ehrin rolled his eyes and self-doubtingly shook his dad awake harshly by the shoulder. "Get up." he muttered, "I came to see you." the elder steadily awoke with a 'hm?' before completely waking.
"Oh!" he lit up. "Elliott! How wonderful to see you." Ed laid there, looking up at his cross-armed son and smiled wholely.
"Get up I said, I'm gonna leave if you're just gonna lay there amd do nothing. While smiling all dumb."
"Elli, you just shook me awake. Spare me the insult talk." Ehrin sighed.
"I'm sorry." he responded quietly and let his dad lay there some more.

Edward sat up relaxed and began to stand up out of bed. He motioned casually for Ehrin's arm, who gave it so Ed could hoist himself up fully. The two walked together to the pumpkin-candle-scented kitchen, and Ed began putting together ham and mustard sandwiches. He got the fresh deli from the baggie in his white fridge and began assembling happily. And hungrily. Ehrin watched him with interest. Ed moved moderately and without slouching. He was in good shape, but truthfully he was fragile. He had still some noticeable muscle but even more noticeable yet subtle grey hair.

Ehrin watched him automatically push his round glasses up the bridge of his straight nose every so often, and he watched him effortlessly put care into every action he did with his strong, fragile hands. (bruh a lotta oxymorons here) Ed finished the sandwiches and gave one to Ehrin gingerly. The two sat down at the island across from each other. Ehrin glared contemptuously at Edward, Dijon mustard slopping from his down-turned mouth, and ed peered at his sandwich, determined to fill his hungry tummy with ham. Both finished in no time and Ed's son didn't even thank him for the sandwich. "So Elli," the older interlocked his fingers with each other. "How are you doing?" He grinned genuinely, looking at his son's scowling face. Ehrin groaned to himself potently.
"I'm fine."
"Got a job?"
"New one at the mall."
"Oh, what is it?"
"A job."
"Hm..? Well that's wonderful to hear. I hope you find it well and handle it responsibly."
"..."
"And how's your husband, is he good? What is DJ again, uhh.." Ed snapped at the air.
"He's a stripper."
"Ah! That's right. Very nice. Tell him I wish him well."
"Yea, totally." Ehrin's stone face hadn't changed expression, his words no meaning. "Something wrong?" Ed inquiried. "No, nah." Ehrin sighed back.

"Alright then." his dad never believed him. "So son, I was hoping you could help me get some groceries today. You up for that?" Ed stood and pushed his chair in. "Yea dad, whatever." Ed clapped joyously. "Wonderful! We don't need too many now, just a little restock. Let me go get changed and then we can go." Edward dashed away with motivation. Ehrin was left in the pumpkin kitchen, sitting repressively on the stool, unmoving and full of his dad's ham.
