Elliott Ehrin Simons hinged open the heavy hospital door. It was Sunday. He stepped briskly inside of the cool and calm room. It had a smell to it, hospital smell in the air rite, and sunlight gleamed pleasingly through the wide glass window. On the bed sat Ed, two full leg casts on his legs, I- 😶 It was the first time Ehrin'd seen him in person since he'd done this to him. He winced internally at the casts, but settled his eyes on Ed. Mans was chillin reading a furniture magazine. He peaked up happily at Ehrin, putting his magazine down and smiling at him. "Hi dad." he said softly. Awkwardly.
"Elliott, come over here." :) he patted the edge of the bed. Ehrin walked over softly. Sat on the edge of the semi-soft, semi-hard bed. He took one look at his dad before letting out a pout and quickly wrapping his arms around him. Ed returned the gesture, laughing. "Ah, you're so tall."(👀🔫 )he commented."I guess I get that from you, I don't know." he commented, his face beside Ed's. They hugging ye.
"Probably." The two separated, beginning a talk.
"How are you feeling?"
"Ah. My legs still ache a bit. They're coming along though. I'm fine. Little bored."
"Well I can pick you up and we can escape from this wretched place if you want. 💁"
"Hah, yea no, I'm fine healing a little longer here. The correct way. The way I'll actually heal and not fall off a building. 😃"
".....I'm not that crazy."
"..."
"..."
"I'm fine. Tell me of you."Ehrin sighed, repositioning himself on the edge to make himself comfortable.
"I don't know, boring stuff. Just working. I'm not sure if it was more or less boring here than in the studio, but I still do, ugh! Nothing!" Ehrin grabbed at his hair with a groan. "Like dad, I eat food, I work out, I watch kids, ... And I sleep and shit. It's so monotonous. How is do boring stuff all you ever did?"
"I never did boring stuff."
"Then what did you do that's interesting?"
"I did beautiful stuff."
"Huh?"
"Yea, just a few times though. I missed out. Then I had to raise some kid that complained about not having butterflies on his shoes like the girlies he was classmates with because he thought it was pretty."
"👀"
👄Ed looked at his nails. "But anyway Elli, it's okay. You can do so much here on this Earth, there are other places to see than here."
Ehrin groaned again.
"But that's just booting up and going somewhere where you'll still just breathe and eat."
Ed scoffed.
"What do you wanna do son, grow wings and fly away? Crash land a rocket into Neptune, what's the point you're making?"
"I just want something brand new to happen."
"... Mm. I see. Then make it happen."
Elliott contemplated this statement for a bit. He got up wordlessly, walking around the fresh room with a hand on his chin. After a few paces he spoke up. "Dad."
"Yes?"
"I'm sorry for how I always acted to you."
"It's okay, Elliott."
"I always just- ugh, I..- I never got.. Agh! It was-.."
"I know. I understand. It's alright, okay? Don't you worry about it. You're my boy so it's my job to endure and help you grow. I'll always love you Elliott." Ehrin had his back towards his dad. He didn't say anything.
"What if I k-"
"Doooon't kill anyone, Ehrin, no. That's bad."
"No, I was- I was just kidding-"
"Mmhm."Ed had Ehrin order him some hospital lunch with the bedside phone. They talked together for a long while more as they waited, Ehrin finally enjoying his time with his dad as he indulged in it. Food eventually came. Ehrin helped out his dad by eating what he didn't finish. He'd gotten a beefy soup, a sandwich of sorts, a yogurt cup, and some water. Ehrin had the other half of Ed's sandwich. They ate concurrently, harmony in the air. Ehrin grinned at Ed. Ed grinned back. It was wondrous.
The time came for Elli to leave. The sun was lower in the sky, but not by much. As the second hand passed on the clock, Ehrin was emnracing his dad again. "So you'll be fine?" he asked him.
"I'll be great." he responded.
"Alright well.. I'll be back tomorrow. I'll bring DJ or someone too. When you're ready I could just carry you like I do him, he's short and does not whatsoever dominate me in any way. You don't even need the wheelchair, you'll heal fully because I can just carry you to wherever." Ed chuckled softly.
"Don't worry about that. Go spend time with your family."
Ehrin smiled at him meaningfully.
"Okay dad. ... I love you."
"I love you too." Ehrin backed away, leaving the room slowly and shutting the heavy door. His heart was finally lighter though as he walked back to his Jeep to make his way home.Time passed. Ed's legs grew better and Ehrin visited him almost every day. Other's visited too, like prolly DJ, prolly DJ's mom with DJ some, Ehrin brought his girls a good bunch. Ed was kept happy and eventually Ehrin was waiting outside of a hospital room impatiently. Saws and slices and voices buzzed from the room. The doors opened to reveal Ed being wheeled out to Ehrin in a wheelchair wih free legs, doctor with clipboard behind him. (idk how broken leg recovery works stfu) "So he'll need to be in that for a couple months, at least until the thigh bones heal.(yea ik theres a name for them but I forgot and its 2:12 am and i don't have data or wifi to look it up idc)" Ed tried and rotated himself in front on Ehrin.
"Alright, thanks."Eh told the doc. Doc explained some other important things to him about what Ed would need to do, Elli listening intently until he was done and left."So, you ready dad?" Elliott asked his father.
"Indeed, Ehrin. Thank you."
His son huffed, determined, and grabbed the wheelchair handles. With that, he rolled his dad out of the hospital and made his way with him back to his apartment. He spent essentially every day with Ed as his full healing process concluded. Ehrin cared all he could for him, had all of the conversations with him. He tried cooking for him, eventually getting better. The two got each other by and by. Perhaps the most important thing throughout it all,Ehrin loved his dad.
