It was a widely known fact that Riki Nishimura lived for dancing.
No one could deny that whenever he hit the stage, all attention was focused on him, every single pair of eyes was following his very movements.
No matter how difficult or daunting the choreo was, Ni-ki mastered it with ease. He made it look so effortless. As if dancing to a song only he knew the melody to.
Several trainees attempted to follow in his footsteps, only to fail miserably short after. Ni-ki only made it look easy, after all.
But his skills weren't simply handed to him. He'd spent countless afternoons trying to perfect his moves. When his classmates made plans for the following weekend, he always politely declined, knowing that he'd be busy dancing anyways.
Instead of wasting his time with playing videogames, he kept his mind focused on the only dream he's ever had: debuting as a Kpop Idol and mesmerizing the crowd with his performance. Just like Michael Jackson did when Ni-ki was younger.
Thus, it's understandable that it came as a bitter surprise, when he learned that, apparently, not all viewers were so well-meaning towards him.
Why, Ni-ki could not fathom. Everything had started so harmless.
It were simple comments about his competitive streak, his strong will as well as his determination to succeed. He couldn't blame them though, for in a way they were right: he did intend to win and he wouldn't let anyone get in his way.
But that was back at the beginning of the survival show, when he was still new and the fans were unsure what to make of the boy whose biggest passion it was to dance. They admired the Japanese for his bravery to audition despite the language barrier. They witnessed him laughing and crying; winning and failing. He played by their rules so they decided to play nice, too.
That was until they managed to figure out his true intentions a few weeks later - at least thought they did - which was also when mean comments about him started spreading across the internet. Even though he knew it was a bad idea, he couldn't help but read every single one of them. Inhaling them like a sponge soaks in water. Except a sponge can be wringed out.
His competitiveness was turned into egoism and what had once been called independence they called arrogance all of a sudden.
Without Ni-ki knowing, he had developed from a dancing miracle into a dancing threat.
It wasn't long till they got comfortable enough to call him names.
"Wannabe"
"Intruder"
"Failure"
"One-man disaster"
The list went on and on, as did the comments. They called him problematic when all he really wanted was to entertain his audience.
