Hayates singular blue eye was calm and cold, fixed solely on his quivering daughter.

Her own grey eyes were locked on the dark wooden floor of her home while her shaking hands were clasped together over her stomach. A cool sweat stuck to her pale skin. She willed the shaking to subsided, for her heart to stop trying to tear itself out her chest, for the fear to melt away into nothing. She preyed to seem normal.

"My Lord" Ishida dropped to a bow quickly while her hands curled into tight fists "I apologise for the decorum. My uniform was a mess so I grabbed spares from the supply closet. Tetsuro accompanied me"

Tetsuro ignored the smooth lies that slipped from Ishidas lips and focused on the brewing storm that was her father. He was still and poised, seated in a delicate seiza position with his folded fan across his lap, while an inky black snake unfurled from under the sleeve of his midnight blue kimono. The reptile grew in size as it coiled around itself, yellow eyes flickering between the pairing in front of it. Meat hook like fangs flashed when it hissed at them.

The dragon engraved in her arm writhed in warning.

"You must think I am stupid" Hayate smiled. His knuckles were bone white with the grip on his fan.

"Of course not, My Lord." Every muscle in the brunettes body tensed as her mind flickered to the kitchen knives stored in the block on the counter behind her "I tell nothing but the truth"

Tetsuro gather what little courage she could find and stepped forward "I'm sorry I was late, we-"

"Silence." Hayate finally snapped and what little bravery the girl found instantly flickered away, like a petal on a breeze "I expected treachery from the likes of you, but to rope my daughter into it all? You are truly desperate"

His eye, blue like a raging sea, snapped to Ishida. The snake, four meters long and roped with nothing but muscle, hissed gleefully as it flexed its gaping jaw. Yellow eyes zeroed in on the woman.

The beast launched forward.

"Run!" Ishida bellowed as she pushed the girl out of the way before dodging under the snakes maw. The reptile crashed into the ground behind her, dark wood splintering into the air, before it reeled back with a snarl.

Ishida was swift as she vaulted across the countertop, her hands steady as she snatched the sharped knives from their confines before whirling around to throw one at Hayate. The man tilted his head out of the way, the sharpened blade severing a strand of fine black hair. Ishida snarled and threw the second but the kitchen blade sank uselessly into the artificial flesh of his snake as it lifted its sinewy body in front of his like a blockade. The woman cursed and pulled two more knives from the block, calloused fingered closed around the black hilts as if they were a lifeline. She shifted on her feet slightly and sank further into her ready stance.
