A Sweet Surprise

It was Friday and Jade woke up early as usual. She grabbed her phone from her bedside table and looked at the time. It was 6 in the morning. To her surprise, there was one text message.

I know you woke up early despite me telling you yesterday that you do not need to report to work today because you need to rest. You don't have important meetings nor shoots to oversee today. Go back to sleep.

It was from Aspen. Jade suddenly remembered protesting the day before that it was silly to work from home because she gets bored easily but the ladies from her team convinced her or imposed, rather, that she gets some rest at home. Shelly told her that she can stay home and just be ready to receive calls and not to worry about waking up early.

Jade thought they were ridiculous. She was filled with anxiety thinking about the meeting for Cryptic's tour next week with the band and their management team present. She thinks drowning herself with more work is going to help calm her nerves but she knows all too well that her brain will just go to overdrive and she'll stress herself even more at the end.

She put her phone down with a smile plastered on her face. Two hours more, she said to herself and went back to sleep.

It was early Friday morning and Jake had dozed off most of his flight. When he woke up, the plane was about to land. He straightened his seat and took out his phone. He looked at the time, it read 6:15AM. Perfect, he thought. He reminded himself that he had much time on his hand.

As soon as he deplaned, he took his phone again and called someone.

"Hey, sorry to disturb you. I just got off the plane. Is everything ready?" He asked.
After hearing confirmation from the other line, he smiled. He then put on his mask and sunglasses and walked to the VIP arrival area, where someone was waiting for him.

When Jake entered the VIP area, a guy in a shirt, black jeans and a black jacket with black and gray rubber shoes stood up. "Good morning, Mr. Kutcher. How was your flight?" He asked in a soft tone, making sure nobody hears him other than Jake. "It was okay, I slept through it even though it's a short flight."
Jake answered.
"Do you want to go straight to the hotel?" The guy asked again. Jake shook his head. "I want to drop by somewhere first but let's grab breakfast on the way."

Jade woke up again at exactly 8 o'clock. She immediately got up and took a shower. After which, she went to her mini home office set up against one of her big arched windows that let the most beautiful natural light in.

This is why she loved this apartment the moment she first laid her eyes on it. It is situated in a nice neighborhood, there are a variety of shops around the block, not that far to commute to work, and the architecture of the building screams romantic baroque meets art deco- polar opposites yet worked seamlessly and just suits her taste.
