The fasten seatbelt sign turns off and Addison turns to Derek. "Let's go". She grabs his wrist and pulls him from his seat dragging him to the back of the plane. "Hi Madeline, I'm going to check you again if that's ok?" Madeline nods her head mid contraction. Addison finishes and pulls Derek aside. "She needed a c-section 10 minutes ago, if we are going to save that baby I need to perform a C right now and you need to be ready to help the baby once she's born. Ok?" Derek stares at Addison hoping that the pilot will start to land the plane, but no such luck. He sighs and nods his head "let's do this. It's a beautiful day to save lives"
"I need a scalpel of some sort, towels and some water". Addison says in a stern tone as she roles up her sleeves and scrubs her hands ready for surgery. "Madeline this, this is gonna hurt like hell, ok. We have on anaesthesia or any sort of pain relief so you will end up passing out from the pain. When your baby is out you won't be conscious, but we are going to take good care of you and your baby. You ready?" Madeline nods with fear in her eyes. Addison looks to Derek and mouths "it's a beautiful day to save lives".
Addison gently takes the baby from its comfortable home, and cuts the cord. She hands Derek the baby "careful, careful" she mutters under her breath. She begins to pack her patient when a small murmur comes from the tiny baby. "Was that, did she just" Addison says in total shock. "I think so" Derek says with a smile on his face.
A voice comes over the intercom 'Good evening passengers, as some may be aware we have a medical emergency on boards so we will be redirecting to Denver international airport. We would like to reassure you all we will continue to our original destination shortly. So, please take your seats and prepare for landing'.
"It's about time" Addison says as she covers the incision in cling film and wraps her patient in a tin foil blanket.
