It was earlier than Marinette could recall, and she was already running late. Her brain was rushing with anxiety while she picked up dirty laundry, brushed her hair and teeth, all at the same time. Despite all of her efforts to be early today, it was nearly eight in the morning, and she was far from being ready. As class representative, she had been called to the principal's office before class to discuss an activity he wanted to plan for the start of the school year.
She quickly finished, grabbed her things, and sprinted all the way down the stairs, just to take a croissant from the tray her dad was carrying, and left.
"Marinette, what's with all the fuss?" Tikki said from her purse.
"I have a meeting with Mr. Damocles this morning to talk about some activity, I think" she crossed the street and started running to the school. "Alya must be already there" she winced.
Lucky for her, the Françoise Dupont High School was a stone throw away from her own home, so she was in front of the big building in practically no time, but as she was making her way up the front stairs, she tripped over somebody else's bag and landed on a boy's arms.
"Oh gosh! I am so sorry, I didn't see youuuAH" she stopped herself when she saw a pair of big green eyes and a mop of blond hair holding her.
"Careful there, Mari" Adrien Agreste said with a smile, and helped her to her feet, completely ignoring the fact that Marinette's knees were trembling.
A couple of years had passed, but Marinette's crush on Adrien has only grown fonder, as the two of them got closer with every day passing. They were "good friends"
"Adrien! thank morning, good you!" She fixed her shirt and grabbed her sketchbooks from the stairs. "I m-mean, thank you and good morning. Want a croissant?"
"No worries, I already had breakfast. That croissant looks delicious, though" he smiled at the croissant she was offering.
"Haha, I hope your breakfast was half as darling as you... I mean, as delicious as you! NO, I MEAN-" she stammered, feeling her cheeks burning. Adrien chuckled.
"You're funny"
"Yeah, that was totally a jo-" and before she could continue, a hand pulled her arm and she was running upstairs again, trying to keep all of her things in her arms.
"No time for distractions, girl" Marinette's best friend, Alya, was running in front of her, guiding her across the halls in their school.
"I'm sorry" both girls ran, hoping they could make it to the meeting "I thought I'd woken up early, so I mingled around and then it was almost eight and I hadn't had breakfast, and then I ran into Adrien and-"
"I saw, you could've spent all morning telling him that he was a delicious croissant"
"Piss off, Alya"
They spotted the door with the "Principal Damocles" plaque in golden letters and made their last bit of way until there.
"Marinette, calm down, you're hyperventilating" Alya said, and they were already in front of Mr. Damocles office.
She took a deep breath and a bite from her croissant, before knocking on the door.
"What do you think Mr. Damocles is planning?" she asked.
"I think we are about to find out"
Mr. Damocles opened the door, and inside it, there were at least 12 kids, all class representatives, and their deputies.
"Dupain-Cheng, Césaire. We were waiting for you to start" he said, and allowed them to enter the room and join their classmates. The director sat at his desk and pulled a folder from a drawer.
